It's 1990, me and my sister just had cake and are sitting in our pyjamas in front of the television. I flick the switch from cable to Sega, put the television on 00 and fire up the master system to play Mickey mouse. I was 8. These are fantastic memories I will cherish for ever. Sometimes, when I close my eyes and think of this game, I can smell cake. I had a fantastic youth. Thank you Sega.

@Tim Janssens - It is 1992 or 1993, I have a SEGA Master System and play often with a friend Sonic and Alex Kidd in Miracle World. One day, I had a SEGA-Magazine and I saw this incredible beautiful screenshot of "Land of Illusion", where Mickey has to throw an apple into the snake's mouth, so he can walk over it. That was the moment I dicided I need "Land of Illusion". My friend and I ate also cookies, speculoos-cookies. I still have this taste of almonds in my mouth when I see Alex Kidd in Miracle World. Man, this game was so hard, still so challenging and with a high replay-value. We played also Sonic 2, Pro Wrestling, Asterix (so beautiful), Ghostbusters, Donald Duck the Lucky Dime Caper and other Alex Kidd-games. Thank you, SEGA. ♥

I remember back in the days, I was 8 or so and just couldn't find how to beat the boss of the candy factory level. Sega had a help line back in the days and I called them. They explained what to do. Good times.

The game of my childhood !! The one which made me happy each time I played. So many good souvenirs with it. Even if I grew up, I think pretty often about it. This game was a magical and secret dream to me. The one to end it. Also to understand the story. At 7, you're too young to understand. Specially if you're French as I. This share makes me happy. This was one of my favourite games as a kid in the early 90s. Unlike the Genesis original, you could choose in which order you wanted to play the levels on each floor, which was a nice touch.

This game is basically ducktales, it plays identically and the levels are very similar. Even the treasure chests look exactly the same as the ones in ducktales. And I think that's a great thing. Nintendo had the exclusive rights to ducktales games, so Sega just made their own version with mickey instead. But for us decades later who love the ducktales games, these master system Illusion games are the closest thing to having new ducktales games that we've ever gotten

In 1992 me and my sister got a used master system for christmas with this game and a few others. This graphics where beyond everything back then, we played it a lot. Even my parents like it. I remember how the whole family were playing this game over and over again. My 5 years old sister beat it but I never did :). The Mega drive/ genesis version where not as this one, sure the graphics were better but it prefer the simplisity in this one. One of the best game ever, still fun to play, just as fun as mario or mega man. :)

this was the first video game i got from my dad, i remember that sonic came in his internal memory, but this mickey game was one that marked me a lot in my childhood. Very unforgiving game on the Game Gear where you couldn't save. Had tons of fun with it though! But never was able to beat it, there was a gap that needed to be crossed by jumping on ghosts that only passed by once that made this extremly difficult. Loved the tree-level. The part with the falling leaves and dark blue background always makes me particularly happy.

9:29 I love how in the Master System version of the candy level Mickey can actually swim in the milk, unlike in the Genesis version where he would just inexplicably take damage upon touching it. Videogame logic at its finest.

Sonic early games had lots of sick features as well, like gliding or jumping on water during a fast spin. Master System developers were on another level. Not to mention the soundtracks which I always listen to whenever I can.

I remember playing this game on a handheld. And you had to plug in 6 AA batteries which were drained when playing for a few hours. I was so bad at this game I never saw the ending. After 30 years I finally see it. Thank you.

I started on Atari 2600 as a 2yo But... The SEGA master system was the most influential console I ever played. Golden axe warrior #1 Sonic 1 and 2 (not mega drive/ genesis) Mick mouse, castle and land of illusion. Sagia Ghouls and ghosts Ultima 4 Being the most treasured.

I remember how back then, most of us thought the Mega Drive version was superior in every way. Nowadays, I realized how much better this one is in terms of gameplay. I don't mean the 16 bit original is bad, but this one has a much more engaging and imaginative level design.

But seriously when I look back on it I realise why I only remember the first screen haha. I had other games like 'ghost house' (remember it?), which were a bit easier. OBVIOUSLY my master system came with Alex the kidd in miracle world as standard... and the young me didnt complete that either haah

I remember the final castle being hard a nails when I was a child. The clock tower too, but the castle was a nightmare. Then again, I was 10 or so. I remember also that I loved the clock tower music.

I owned the SEGA Master System version of Castle back in the early 90s! Still love it to this day. I'm no Disney fan by any stretch, but I still choke when Minnie kisses Mickey upon her Final Rescue at the game's end!

I played the hell out of this game on the Game Gear (same version) and then completely forgot about it. It's weird how your brain seems to remember EVERYTHING. You know when you think of something you haven't thought of in forever and it blows your mind? Well this was even more deep. This is one of those long, long lost memories where I would have NEVER thought of it. NOTHING could have even REMINDED me of it. It wasn't until I booted it up with an emulator that it IMMEDIATELY all came back.

I love all the levels but the sweets factory is my favourite. I played this game in 1993 during the end of the summer and my mother worked in a sweets factory so this level made me feel at home since sometimes i went there to take some sweets for free.

I was more familiar with the Megadrive version of Castle Of Illusion but had the Game Gear version as well in the early 2000's. My brother his sold Megadrive and all the games he had in the late 90's for a PS1 but i bought a Megadrive in the early 2000's and tonnes of games we used to play because i loved them so much. Those were the days.
