This video was so succinct, wow!!! So the harmonium is like an organ or accordion I suppose? How does the pump’s feel compare to an accordion’s? Is the player expected to activate the harmonium pump manually? Can it be done with a pedal?

Hey Stephen, I love your curiosity! I will try my best to answer your questions. Yes, the accordion is very similar to the harmonium, with the main differences being in mobility and playing features. Harmoniums are free-standing, while accordions can be worn on the body. Additionally, the harmonium lacks the bass buttons found on the accordion. Unfortunately, I can’t comment much on the difference between the pumps, as I haven’t personally played the accordion, but I believe it requires more coordination for the pumping. With the standard versions of the harmonium, the bellows (pump) require manual pumping by hand. But there are versions with foot pumps (pedals), allowing musicians to use both hands to play the keys, making them more similar to pianos or organs.
