Hi, great video as usual, do you do any notes on the book journeys end by any chance?
@ClairesNotes

Thank you very much! I don't have any notes yet on Journey's End, although I have taught it so am very familiar with it. I would consider doing some if there was enough interest!

ms claire, you said that the poem arouses pathos but never pity. Aren't pathos and pity interconnected? when i read the poem i felt pity. To me he sounds self-pitying, as exemplified by the action of hugging himself.
@ClairesNotes
@ClairesNotes 11 ай бұрын
Good question! We all see different things and respond in different ways. I personally don't see self-pity because of everything else he says. I see a man who is proud of who he is. He hasn't let himself down - his body has but as long as you can back up your analysis with evidence from the text, you're good to go!

Miss, may I ask what is the best way to structure a poetry analysis essay in an IGCSE lit exam?
@NkAnn
@NkAnn Жыл бұрын
There is another video on KZbin about that. Search up Cambridge igcse English lit exam structure (I don’t remember exact wording) and you will find it

@ClairesNotes
@ClairesNotes 10 ай бұрын
I spend a lot of time scripting and really thinking about what I'm going to say because I personally don't like videos where people 'um', 'er' and repeat themselves all the time. I find them very annoying!

@ Owww i mean like me as a literature student i tend to analyse things too deeply and the poem well Thom Gunn really went out of his way to truly explain how he felt and the poem is a bit too sexual in my perspective but overall this was a very great analysis thank you for the videos🙏🏽
@ClairesNotes
@ClairesNotes 2 ай бұрын
Oh, I see. That's the thing with poetry - we all respond to it in different ways and each of our responses is valid :-) The fact that you felt this means that it struck some kind of chord for you. For me, I don't see it as sexual, I respond more to its emotional aspects - the feelings of isolation, incarceration in an illness and the desperation to have human contact.
