The hardest thing about furniture making is the number of skills you need. Carcase work, dovetails, veneering, marquetry, carving, finishing. The list goes on. In my case I even cast my own bronze fittings and gold plate them. Also having the right tools for the job can take you many years to aquire.. You can't afford to go out and buy a machine that cost thousands. you have to work your way up to a point where you'll get full use out of it..

I would say that Victor Marwin has reached the point where vocation transcends into art......

What makes someone a "master craftsman"? I don't know of any professional certifications.
@gregoriovii8746

NICE THOUGHT, BUT YO CAN'T STUDY IN A FORMAL WAY FOR BEING A MASTER. ON THE CONTRARY, A "MASTER" IS SOMEONE WHO DOES'T NEED OF ANNY CERTIFICATION BUT HIS OWN TALENT, WORK AND DEVELOPED TECNIQUE. YOU WON'T GET A "MASTER" FROM A UNIVERSITY. THERE WON'T BE A MASTER JUST READING AND STUDYING. THERE MUST BE SOMETHING ORIGINAL, SOMETHING NEW IN WHAT YO DO.

I love how that leg assembly he put together at the start didn't even sit flat lol rocked around like a drink russian haha. I know he's skillful so maybe should have cut that bit out of the video

Drunk Russian Hahahahahaha! Good one! I didn’t put a glide on the new leg whereas the other three have glides therefore causing it to rock. I’m kinda worried about you not catching this! However you are correct about taking it out of the video because most people like you are just not that observant! Sorry about that Chris!

I also play classical violin, bass guitar, and flute. I make bass guitars that were approved by the likes of Billy Sheehan, and John McLaughlin. I’m making a violin this year. Then I’m going to rock out like a drunk Russian!!

I don't agree with anyone who calls himself a master craftsman. I will always be a student, and continue to learn. I work with my hands, machinery , and by eye. And I think anyone who says he is a master, is far from it.

There is absolutely nothing that I can not build out of wood. I’ve been a woodworker for 48 years and I have mastered many aspects of the craft. Those of which I haven’t also make me a student for the rest of my life.

"master" or not its hard to appreciate somebody who uses that word on themselves. let someone else say it for you, and then humbly deny it, if you're the real deal. boring to hear him toot his own horn and drop names, regardless of his skill

with his shoddy screw-together furniture displayed here, it's likely an unearned title.

Mastercraftsmen follows a full apprenticeship; in this case an apprenticeship in hand tools. If not then Im sorry their not. Apprenticeships need to be brought back as they were so we can maintain the correct status. The apprentice always learns from the master and so on.

This man seems to have undergone the proper training and experience to earn that title. Try to use your argument towards something like a Doctorate or a PHD. It is the same thing except for the latter having a more structured pipeline with paperwork to prove the work while this type of trade title can only be proven through previous projects and knowledge of the process.

Just wonderful, I've been looking for "best woodworking designs" for a while now, and I think this has helped. Have you ever come across - Denia Diyictoria Bulldozer - (should be on google have a look ) ? Ive heard some extraordinary things about it and my mate got excellent success with it.
