This video series literally changed my life! My song sounded flat and dull before and now it has more "colour" somehow - not to mention it sounds far more cohesive. Simply from the glue compressors and limiting on master. Thank you so much! I've been subbed for a few weeks now. I just want to say please don't give up on this channel. The quality of the videos is sensational, I can't believe we get this sort of content for free. I'm hoping that your channel really blows up. Thanks for the video! I wouldnt do anything especially different. You could use the Multiband Compressor, even split it into 4 bands. I try to avoid Multiband Compression on the master, but it can be a quick fix. Some widening or narrowing on certain frequencies with the Utility could enhance the track. Besides that some slight Redux on the highs can be really nice imho. :)

With the modern importance of true peak limiting (preventing clipping in the analog signal when the digital dots are connected for speaker output), I find Izotope Ozone's limiter to be one of the best, with very low margin of dB error. LoudMax is a good free one 🙂 I like Saturator and most plugins before Glue Compressor's soft clip (right click on the plugin title bar for oversampling, although it has less limiting) and sometimes subtle Drum Bus on the master as well.

Hi, great tutorial! Do you always master your tracks that way? I've heard that the Ableton limiter for making louder is not the best because it's not as good quality as the Fabfilter PRO L for example? Second question :-) ...I've heard several people say that in Ableton you need a bit longer to get a good sound like in Logic or Cubase, because the sound engineer is a bit better there? How do you see it? :) I'm looking forward to your feedback!
@djvar944 жыл бұрын
An audio signal that gets rendered by Ableton is the exact same as ANY other DAW or audio processor. As long as the rendering settings are the same if you render a sine wave from Ableton and another at the exact same frequency and amplitude and phase as the one in Ableton and NO effects in either the single channel nor the master bus, but you do that from Logic or Cubase if you'll see them side by side they will be completely identical. The only thing that will be different are audio effects. Every audio effect, either stock or 3rd party contributes to a different and sometimes distinct feel to an audio signal. So no, don't believe those bullsh!t popular legends about DAW that produce better quality audio than others. About the limited you are right though, as Ableton's stock Limiter distorts like @$$, FabFilter Pro L2 instead is transparent balanced, has true peak limiting and ridiculous high oversampling options. But even though it is transparent and doesn't distort, it kind of breaks the low end, making it a lot softer, not as punchy and warm. For that regard I recommend iZotope Ozone's Limiter (aka Maximiser) with IRCIII (Intelligent Release Control), it's warmer and punchier when you set it to 'Punch'.

for noobies: don't copy the video and just set your first limiter on -7.30 dB ceiling if you don't leave enough headroom in your mix. it will squash your transients and its not so nice.

Nice, Just a quick question. Why have you chosen to use a limiter before your final limiter instead of a compressor to catch the peaks?
@_abholen_4 жыл бұрын
I think its just a preference. A limiter is basicly a compresser with infinity:1 ratio and a quick attack. So I think you could acchieve the same effect with a compressor :)

Hi Fabio. I had a go at using your technique but without using a single stock plugin so I would be forced not to copy you. I also watched all three videos carefully, then tried this only from memory. kzbin.info/www/bejne/l4OcpqZnfNJojdU ( I will go back again and view them later to learn some more) This now leads to two questions. 1) How do I know if the actual mix is any good before I even start to master? and the other is. 2) When you master a track, does the process differ for say a CD to 'you tube' as you tube cuts off everything louder than -14 LUFS?
@NoizeLondon4 жыл бұрын
1) do the limiting stage but more gently, take the mix and listen to is everywhere 2) ignore all that faff - master to as loud as you can without compromising the integrity of the record
