I think this is a variation on the 'appogio' technique of singing exercises? Very useful.

I know how important tonal onset is and have practised it before using your video just now. The difference is the approach, the technique is very well explained here. I think the quality of onset in a song, "grabs" people's attention right away, rather like the first sentence in a novel, that makes the reader not want to put the book down. This is really useful so THANK YOU!
