This video helped me to archieve the loudness i always wanted to get. I was never able to get my songs to compete with commercial releases until this video. The "trick" with using two limiters in a row and the simple mindset to balance your track with eq frequency wise was gold for me. It feels like someone just opened my eyes to mastering. And also i found out that if the mix is bad, there is no chance that your master will sound like commerical releases. Thanks a lot for your videos Fabio!

@@yungdirtysprite6980 Multiband compression is like regular compression... do you master regular compression? anyway on pro MB there my way of doing it: -First Alwayd the 100 - 300 band with a mid attack and mid release Ratio 1.1/1.4 and around 9 Range and a medium threshold : the aim is to clean this muddy zone you keep the attack with the mid attack but the compression continue to kill the rest with the release. -Then High (10+) Fast attack fast release higher ratio : high frequency are quicker you can go much on it - Then 300 -2000 ( Or 1000 it depends)Band : litthe faster attack than low mid medium release, the aim is to glue the zone and control it Then2000 -8000 - it depends the attack is faster than 300-2000 but not as fast as the H+, the settings really depends of the problems Then the Low -100 : Like a mid attack long release for clicky stuff (707 kick etc) but it really depend there is no " magic" Execpt on master, i use multi band ONLY when i can't achieve the aim with regular compression Or EQ: and a lot of time it's when it's a Highly dynamic and rich sound it's why that work so much on -vocal -piano

Well about the loudness extra tips: The Spectrum Balance is a MAJOR for this purpose, use a visualizer (i like Izotope tonal balance witch is not Too precise so i have to use my ears) even if your mix is not extra loud if you have a proper spectrum balance it won't gonna sound to shitty in comparaison to commercial tracks.

@raazmusic5 жыл бұрын
Really nice video, explained well, thank you! I'm just not sure about comparing effects of your mastering using different loudness - it's a bit pointless since louder almost always sounds better (our ears works a bit like limiters when sound get louder, so yeah - it sounds better). Would love to hear a comparison with exactly the same output levels. It won't make us hear everything you did clearly, because of YT compression etc... but it would be better than cheating us with loudness which is happening right now ;)
@NoizeLondon5 жыл бұрын
Hey bud if you watch closely you'll see that the peak levels are almost exactly the same (maybe off by 0.5db) I did this intentionally so that the before and after was not biased. The RMS is coming up so much that the perceived loudness is so much more audible than the peaked that it throws your judgement. Hope that explains it in enough detail!!
@raazmusic5 жыл бұрын
Shit, you're right, I was judging just by my ears, not looking at the peaks. Wow! Sound really much louder!
@kage-fm5 жыл бұрын
it’s hard to A/B your mastering chain when they’re outputting significantly different levels - obviously the added loudness sounds better, but the EQ and saturation you’re doing are much harder to notice that way.
@NoizeLondon5 жыл бұрын
Hi Kage, if you look closely you’ll see the peak levels are the same. What I’ve managed to do is dramatically increase the RMS level so that the overall LUFS is much much louder. What we’re dealing with here is metered volume VS perceived volume.
@jacobskovsbllknudsen59085 жыл бұрын
For another video you might consider level matching the mastered and unmastered versions, louder is always better you know, so you don't really pay attention to what you have done, besides making it louder. Just a thought ;) Fine chain though :)
@NoizeLondon5 жыл бұрын
Hi bud you’re not the first person to mention this but if you look on the meter you’ll see that the peak levels are very very closely if not perfectly matched. What you’re hearing is the perceived loudest which is high due to an increase in RMS. So although you think it sounds louder the metered volume is (almost) identical!
@jacobskovsbllknudsen59085 жыл бұрын
@@NoizeLondon I'm aware that it is perceived loudness, but since we're entering an age where LUFS is the new standard you could choose to adhere to level match with this parameter or the RMS if you so choose ;) It's not a bad video, by any means, it's just that, for educational purposes, the beginner producer will most likely only recognize that it got "very way more stronger" ^_^ But then again, I'm not making the videos, you are, talking about transient shaping and different kinds of clipping might become too long-winded...
@NoizeLondon5 жыл бұрын
@@jacobskovsbllknudsen5908 I am also matching to LUFS... but peak level is what we're looking to get more perceived loudness out of my friend! I hear what you're saying - at the end of the day as a mastering engineer its the perceived volume that I am trying to achieve at the same peak :)

The issue with doing that is people end up copying the exact settings to their own track and then wondering why they don't sound the same. I am working on doing smaller bitesize videos on the individual topics breaking them down with ease rather than submitting a mass load of information which in the end will be boring and forgettable.
