You can have a script with a ref to the button and then listen to the pointer up and down events and change the text accordingly.

Do you have a tutorial about blocking ui clicks passing through buttons? All the other tutorials in youtube are not working. Thanks
@CocoCode3 жыл бұрын
Hey! Can you please describe what do you mean?
@mannix1433 жыл бұрын
@@CocoCode hi thanks for the quick reply. My scenario is i have gameobjects and when highlighted i have a button that will show the name of that gameobject(or a part of a machine for example). If i click the button to show the name of highlighted gameobject, it will give me the one that is under the button instead, but if no gameobject is underneath the button it works fine. I tried using panel, images, gameobjects on UI but it still goes through. I have a bolt flowmachine on the button to run the popup window to show the name.

ok the most important part of the "simple button" part was how to make the button work and you just skip over this example object that you never explain it's purpose or whats in it but cool very cool extremely useful I still cant make a damn button

like i'm fucking dying trying to figure out the code aspect of this stupid button, and not a single tutorial on youtube has it with the new input system and you fucking skip over it and the unity manual is shit so fuck me I guess.

Trying to make the button print to console, but when I click the button it doesn't print to console. Sure would've been nice to have seen what your code looked like to see where I went wrong! Guess you didnt think that was important though. I still can't make a button do anything. Thanks pal

@@83rdgec17 I'm having the same problem. It's basically what TheEnglishQuail laid out. It's a great tutorial but he never explains what the example object is. So can you help with that?
@83rdgec172 жыл бұрын
@@mqosu yeah. I’m actually not sure about the new input system since I use the old one but from my research it seems like the way buttons work hasn’t changed much. But I could be wrong. Anyway, the example object has a script attached. This script contains a public function (ie public void) that, once run, will make the “button press” prompt appear, and go upward whilst fading away. There are plenty of ways to do this but it’s not relevant to the button; what’s inside the function could be anything depending on what you want the button to do. Anyway, the way he made the button work was the add a button component, drag the example game object into the little box to the bottom left, and then in the drop down menu, go example game object > the script with the public function > the public function itself. This tells the button exactly what function to run when pressed. Hopefully this helped

Are any downsides? I'm a bit skeptical when adding all kinds of packages or dependencies to my projects, sometimes when upgrading it might give me some errors but that's another story, anyways, I'm referring to performance issues, or other possible issues.
@CocoCode3 жыл бұрын
Of course I can guarantee you anything, but I’ve been using it for some time and so far it was pretty ok for me. Also - important - it’s an official Unity package and in fact they decided to include it as a stock feature in upcoming Unity 2021.1 Source: forum.unity.com/threads/new-device-simulator-preview.751067/page-5#post-6574225
