Your observations about the 900 are certainly correct. I have been pretty good at estimating how much fuel I needed for whatever I was cooking. Can't imagine having half the hopper full of fuel at the end of a cook. As for grease management, I have cooked on the top rack and used aluminum pans underneath. I have no grease problem. Don't want to hijack the video, but I bought the 900 for a very specific purpose. It does the job. The XT looks like you can do great things with it, and you have. To be honest, I never thought about buying the XT. Not sure why. . Anyway, thanks for the video and your hard work. Belated Happy 4th. JT

I'm hoping You have unbiased opinion after using both. I'm thinking like if xt already has good probes then is there a point in getting quad pro? Hey Tommy, glad to see the XT hacks. I’m really happy with the 1050, but I’m not always getting as much smoke as I’d like. I like the splits tip. Do you also put chunks in the hopper? Thanks for your advice, Alden
@thegalleryBBQ
@thegalleryBBQ 4 ай бұрын
No... If you do splits in teh hopper keep it splits. That said, splits up top and chunks down in the ash catcher would be killer.

Hey Tommy, I was planning to get a 1050 but I'm wondering if master built plans to do some of the upgraded found in the XT in to the 1050 or 800. Mainly I'm wondering about the issues with the switches ,the control panel and the firebox .

Hey Tommy great video as always and all MB owners can make use of the splits surrounded by charcoal briquettes method for producing offset like smoke flavor. If owners don't have easy access to splits like me you can get a piece of 4" PVC and put it down in the center of the hopper and fill it with wood chunks or even pack it with chips.I then pour charcoal all around the outside and then just pull the tube out leaving the chunks/chips perfectly stacked in the middle of the hopper surrounded by an even layer of charcoal. I actually have taken it to the next step that is really cool. I buy Lumberjack pellets for $10 a 20lb bag (1/2 the price of wood chunks) and spray the inside of the PVC tube with Wagu Tallow then fill it up about 3/4 full of pellets, add enough water to fill the tube up. The water expands the pellets to fill the tube and I just wait for everything to dry and slide the pellet "log" out and just set that in the center of the hopper surrounded by charcoal. It takes a little time and effort but the savings in $ and the consistent burn make it well worth it.The other thing I do is only use the amount of fuel I need for each cook so at the end I do a burn off with what little is left which eliminates any possibility of losing 1/2 a hopper of fuel due to air leaks, it burns off any crud on the grates for easy cleaning, it moves the grease to the drip pan and I always start each cook with fresh fuel. So instead of putting 16lbs of fuel in for a 4 hr cook I just put in 4-4 1/2lbs. If I'm cooking burgers hot and fast I just put in 2lbs. You get the point. Try it, you can always add more if needed but no broom stick needed doing it this way😉

HI Tommy I really enjoy your videos. I have owned the 560 and 1050, both worked great. I now have the Xt and frankly i am very dissapointed. The problem is the temp control is beyond bad. Last 2 were just fine. my XT will over shoot by 150 degrees then under by 75. middle rack temps with my external probe is all over the place sometimes off from the buikt in probe temp by 200 degrees. Build quality is great but i dont think i can live with the temp issue.
@thegalleryBBQ
@thegalleryBBQ 2 ай бұрын
WOW... Although mine over shoots it settles quick. It does run hot but i adjust according to my externel probes. Have you reached out to the company??

another great vid Tommy. I was thinking about the no flare up, grease fires with the XT. Putting a slight engineering twist to it. The lack of grease fire at all is the design of the twin manifold that vents the smoke and heat right to the center of the grill. Since the vents are pumping smoke and and almost pure CO2/CO into that lower part of the grill, since most of the grease falls below the vents, it snuffs any grease flame ignition. Theres just not enough oxygen to the ignite the flame. I could be wrong, but it make sense to me. May be a design feature. I wonder if I could make a custom vent system like that for 560, which seems to be the worst for grease fires. That may be and opportunity for like LSS to make custom manifolds to do the same thing.

The lack of grease fire is defiently kudos to Masterbuilt. Cheers

Does this model have the griddle like the 800, or is it available separately? I really liked the 800 and have been wanting to get it for several years but hasn't been an option for us yet. I think I would use the griddle more than smoking. But, I really like the design of the XT better. Now I have to convince the wife to let me spend more.

@Badmana0
@Badmana0 4 ай бұрын
The decision is easy, if you can afford the XT then get, the cooks each one produces wont be that different but the XT is built like a tank and will last you far longer, you get what you pay for with the XT. And that's quality of materials used.
@thegalleryBBQ
@thegalleryBBQ 4 ай бұрын
Hi Brian. I kind of agree with Badman. While the 1050 is an amazing pit, the XT is build better, better meterails used, better disign. That said. They both will put out amazing food. You have to get what you can afford. 560/600/800/1050/XT.... All those pits are tops in it's class.
