I can understand when a judge is reluctant to or refuse to taste a dish because it's very burnt, raw (when it's not supposed to be), or contaminated therefore unhygienic. But it is very rude, offensive and unfair to refuse to taste a dish because in your view the flavour or ingredient combination is unorthodox or not traditional . It's like some people say that offal is 'disgusting', yet they have never tried it or had it prepared by someone who doesn't know how to cook. When your job is to judge food, you need to be unbiased. If someone has a strong dislike of some foods or cuisines they should not judge a competition like this.

Yes, quite different elements can blend together for a wonderful taste which the judges are missing out in expanding their own taste repertoires by not tasting them. How many classical dishes don’t really go together, but do work because someone was bold enough to introduce them to diners. To bad, the limitations the judges are placing on themselves. If not this, then what’s the point if the Masterchef competitions? If they are going to limit themselves to the same old, same old. Then don’t waste my time.

I suppose, you have not seen MC Australia (or NZ) if you find this couple of insufferable buffoons 'refreshing'. The show is cringeworthy, and those two clowns make it look like the contestants are saving lives. It is food, fools (you know what happens after you eat it). I love cooking, but would never want to cook for those two, plus there should be at least three judges, makes for a more balanced opinion the contestants' creations.

I'm concerned about how unadventurous these two cooks are, they really don't want anything outside of the box, do they? But, according to their palate -as if that was some global metric. I'll except it if it's plain bad, but they don't say that do they?! That's why I'm struggling to understand their judgments. Especially the Russians lady, since one chef didn't even bother to taste her dish. That's simply unprofessional from a judge. He's required to taste their dishes, whether he likes them or not. He didn't give her a fair chance in the least. Even if she might not have passed the trial.

@@Annie1962 You DO know there's such a thing as "onion jam" which uses literal fruit jam with onions and tomatoes, right? It's delicious. If a judge can't man up enough to taste something that might "Not taste good" "Because I know what they taste like separately" is stupidity. Just because something doesn't make sense to you doesn't mean it's bad. That's small-minded and stupid. You should be open to try things you might be adverse to because you never know what might just be your next favorite thing.

Like most cooking competitions the judging is slightly fabricated. One judge says yes, the other says no when in fact both judges would otherwise say yes because to have this conflict just adds an extra flavour to the program. You can almost guess which one of these prats will say yes and which one will say no. Who is the pompous prat in glasses whose personality bypass operation was a complete success?.

If you only accept savory dishes - STATE SO TO THE CONTESTANTS! That was rather vile to watch. When faced with a flawless lemon meringue-pie they choose to look down upon the talent of the contestant= looking down upon deserts, and, when considering their yes to possible improval for men, but not for women -a rather sexist mindset. I'm not impressed by these judges at all. They lack humanity and self-reflexion about their role in this program. Or even just knowledge about how cooking - as a livelihood. Because not everything is not about obtaining a Michelin star - that's for sure. Just getting a cafe with great bakery running is a great achievement! And these two don't seem to know about that.

Astounding that the judges made the choice to completely forgo giving out the 2nd apron this round. Usually they would've been bound by the rules to do so. I guess they really thought that none of the others cooked well enough that round to deserve one, and decided that Pierce was more deserving.

I simply can't stop commenting on these judges! I've never heard a judge literally "shoot down" a contestant due to WHEN their meat was shot as if that was the main problem. So weird. Though I understand where he's going with that inquiry, all game has a "season" for it when they're best. From crawfish to game. But, still, how could that be something to criticize during a cook when the timing is not something the contestant can choose?!! Focus on the cooking of the meat, please!
