se esse masterclass foi na centro cultural em SP, eu estava lá. Sou guitarrista de Thrash Metal... hehehe mas me interesso muito pela música erudita. Fui apenas como observador e pude aprender muito com o feedback dela para os caras aí. Ela é simplesmente apaixonante. Linda, talentosa, extremamente atenciosa com todos que fizeram perguntas e uma incrível professora. O violão dela tem um som impressionante, nunca pensei que um violão pudesse ter um alcance tão grande quanto o dela... mesmo nas dinâmicas mais baixas. I think the first guitarist is a excellent player with great potential.....technically proficient under pressure which is a really good foundation to build from. He just needs to develop his feel....Ana breaks this down to technical elements (dynamics/ articulation etc which is technically correct ....but the 'missing spark' goes beyond the guitar and even music. He needs to goes out and fall in love, smell the roses, dance in the forest, grow spiritually as a person and bring this back into the music!

It can be so hard to take criticism, let alone in front of an audience & ultimately on youtube. Years ago I knew a banjo player who also taught, & she had some buttons printed for her students (as a joke): "I did it better in practice."

+Denise Di Salvo so what you want him to do? snap out of it? some people are shy and cannot be helped, he is a good player and did better than many people criticizing him would. Also, it is bullshit about go and find your spirituality and all that soul crap. People are different, and this what he presents while he plays. Ana is around the same age, and portrays more "feeling", it has nothing to do with her having more spirituality and all that crap, is all about TALENT, there is a reason why she is so admired and has everything in one person, looks, personality, confidence, proficiency, technique, the perfect package, nerves of steel in public, no amount of practice can give your that, and you gotta work with what you have. No amount of bullshit spirituality seeking, meditation and wisdom will give this guy, what she obtained by having the right genes, mind, muscles, brain, etc

Denise Di Salvo English is not my first language, but I could write better if I wanted to. My comment is mostly directed to the first comment. I have been playing guitar for 14 years, so I have knowledge and experience on this subject. There are no such things as soul or spirituality. They are nothing but made-up terms to explain talent and certain personality/character traits. For example, many Asian women players get criticized for having no soul or feelings, mostly because they are introverted while inside they could be full of them. There is a reason why this girl is so admired and successful in the classical guitar world. Do you think all this guy needs to do is practice, find his "spirituality" and suddenly he will be as proficient as her? She is extremely talented, and no amount of training will get you to her level. She has the whole package. She has looks, confidence, nerves of steel, technique, talent, charisma, and so many other attributes, that play a huge role in guitar playing. Naturally, many will refuse to accept this realization, because it leaves them hopeless. They rather believe in HOPE than be cognizant of an unpleasant truth that negates that hope, even if such hope never materializes.

+Denise Di Salvo Plus one here, well said. Seriously, if I had to play for Ana Vidovic, I would be totally bricking it! Plus, she covered a bunch of stuff. When I was playing seriously and taking lessons, I tried to take one thing from each lesson. However, in the master class setting, you want to take in as much as you can. It' can be really overwhelming.

Same as piano, like Martine Krause said：On stage, you have to play 10 times louder and faster. Some people couldn't understand, why we need to play so loud? even in studio, music is all about perform, you need to communicate with your audience, if you can't reach the last row, they don't know what you are trying to "say", we always practice so loud, so much of deep tone, but all we get are complaint, especially in Singapore, i think most of the Singaporean don't even know the art and beautiful of music, they just pretend. Back to this, regardless what instrument that you learn, music are universe, we all taking about the same language, like Ana said, the sound projecting, deeper tone, more contrast and dynamic colour, articulation, all are essential music elements.

That's interesting, but doubling sounds will only raise the volume very modestly because the ear hears sound logrithmically, not linearly. Even so, I think the dynamic range would have been limited. I think the guitar is a good analogue for the harpsichord in that respect

Its's true, many people play Baroque music at the same level of volume, it shouldn't happen, Baroque music is so expressive, and before Renaissance we have lot of lyrical vocal music, there is no way we play Baroque music like a machine, expressiveless

Contrast the beautiful sound and power of her Jim Redgate guitar with his guitar which sounds as if it was made out of a discarded egg carton. He could do with a better guitar methinks.

+ergastule Ha, yep! My advice to people who ask what guitar to buy is "Whatever you like as long as it feels right... and costs at least $1000, ;o) I never used to think that way until I got an Augustino Loprinzi. Within a couple of weeks it completely changed the way I play. A good instrument responds to even the most subtle changes in expression and attack. You don't have to push it to play louder. You can go from dolce to ponticelo by moving your hand just a few centimeters up the or down the strings and slightly varying the angle that you fingers address the uppers. I don't think that a good instrument can make a poor player good, but a bad instrument can severely limit and even discourage a player with potential. All that being said, I have had my instrument played by people who are of superior talent than me and been dumbfounded at how much more sound they can extract from the same instrument.

I think the first guitarist has a lot of hidden potential, but he completely lacks good ideas. It is so heavy and backwards. He has along way to go to gain artistic control, but Ana's input changed it for the better. Yet, he went back to his unfortunate tendencies right afterwards.

He needs better right hand angles. Essential full sound, more gallantly, even arrogant by contrast. Problem is he's not developed enough yet, he needs to essential whole of what she's showing him. He's got a sweet guitara though.
