Mr Biss is really feeling the piece. I forgot to breathe when hearing him play this piece for the first time. His emotions flow with the music, in one continuous stream of sentimentality and to quote his own words "consciousness". His choice for this seemingly un-showy piece also is incredibly endearing to me. His almost baroque-like/Mozartian(yes I am aware of the period inconsistency😉) execution of the grace notes @3:11 is unique among other musicians' renditions I've heard. As a Mozart lover I tip my powdered wig to that~ Maestro Barenbiom is simply my hero on so many levels. As much as I love LangLang..his master classes teach you so much about music, but little else. But a masterclass by the Maestro teaches you about not just music, but life. I keep coming back to this vid over and over again since I discovered it a month or so ago.😍

Congratulations Daniel Barenboim💕🙏🏻

How can we not be moved! "Music is beyond words" and Barenboim succeeded to make yo feel while explaining and playing. Wonderful musicians trying to be absolutely true with Beethoven's music. Thank you so much for sharing with us this treasure.

That piece is a roller coaster of fervent emotions and nostalgia. Its not only virtuosic but it contains partial wistfulness and melancholy, along with charming serenity, overall sublime and beguiling. And Jonathan Biss played it really as described, this is one of the best masterclasses ever conducted...

Barenboim`s insights are so powerfully true, his train of thought so clear.. It`s no wonder he plays Beethoven like he does.

Horowitz and Rubenstein showed their emotion thru the music of the performance. Extreme facial and body movements detract. One cannot hear these movements in the sound produced.

@@emperorjimmu9941 that is just not right! Richter played in dark halls, visuals has nothing to do with music, you went to a shit lecture I am afraid!
@LachlanTyrrell20034 жыл бұрын
@@amirmotahari6186 of course visuals are relevant to music! If they weren't, concerts would be pointless. What's the point when you can listen from the comfort of your home? Also, one of the main reasons many people are so impressed by pianists is because of the speed their fingers play at, all of which doesn't matter if visuals aren't important.

I like Biss too but I believe the way he approaches the keyboard with his hand position puts him at a disadvantage, he seems to “push” the keys which creates a weak tone, DB on the other hand approaches the keyboard much like Rubinstein, from above, which creates a dream-like tone......
@BurningSky94 жыл бұрын
He doesn`t push. On the contrary, he takes the key (caressing, in a way). If you look closely, you can see his wrist is flexible and he does an upwards movement with it. The problem is he doesn`t use enough pressure and weight, hence the weak sound. You can see at times his fingers playing lines in a detached manner and that is a recipe for disaster in a movement of this depth and `cantabile` nature.
