I'm so surprised this title hasn't got almost any recognition. I've found out about it only because the underground fan dub group that I'm following posted their dub on this title, otherwise I'd probably never found out about it. I love it. From a historical perspective, they're really exaggerating the persecution by the church, but such alternate reality is plausible enough to imagine. And the Polish names aren't even butchered! (so far). The word written on that letter/note in the 3rd episode is "Ziemia", meaning Earth. And as you probably know, the anime title is likely/definitely a reference to "De revolutionibus orbium coelestium" written by Copernicus.

We could never accurately say what was actually happing in medieval times. We base the past on are scraps of information we could've gathered. People can say whatever they want about researching the past and knowing it, but unless we were there, we will never actually know the full truth. Church was always manipulating people and events, that has never changed.

While I don't think this will get anime of the season, even though I also think things like that are, or at least should be, subjective, I also think that it's interesting that an anime like this is even being considered for that (Hey guys, there's a new episode of the anime about the heresy of heliocentrism that takes place in Fifteenth Century Poland today. Let's go watch it and learn things and feel things). This series really is good and interesting so far and as a Benedictine monk (it's likely that some of the torturers - the ones with the main one, Nowaki I think, with the haircuts known as tonsures - are Benedictine monks: they're just like me for real), it feels more real for me, even though it was real. I think anime based on things that could be real, especially if it was real (or based on something real), are better. I like to see what you can get out of anime, no matter what it is.

In terms of Storytelling and writing quality I personally think Madhouse may top Frieren with Orb. I am a little biased as a maths student but still I think this is exactly what I needed. This and Dandadan are the best animes Ive seen for the small number of episodes so far in the last two or so years. Frieren's first few episodes are a very close second behund these two.

Great story. Recognize it as fiction, though. People were not burned at the stake for things like this. Galileo's worst punishment was censorship because he couldn't prove his hypothesis but would still teach it and insisted on teaching it against his sentence.

@@angelgomez7081 I believe he means the following. 1) They draw nice circular orbits with the Sun at the center, but the predictions from this model are much worse than from Ptolemy's geocentric model because it is wrong. In fact, the orbits of the planets are elliptical, and the Sun is not at the center - it is located at one of the two focuses of the ellipse for each orbit. So the real picture of orbits is not as beautiful as they thought and looks more like what they drew for Ptolemy's model. 2) Heliocentrism is just as wrong as geocentrism because the sun itself moves. The sun rotates relative to our galaxy, the galaxy itself also rotates, and there is no such thing as absolute space that is always at rest. Therefore, you are free to place the center of coordinates as the resting point to any celestial body and describe the motion of other bodies around this center. It could be the Earth or the Sun equally, so heliocentrism is no more correct than geocentrism. That said, they are absolutely right that heliocentrism is preferable because it is mathematically simpler, so the basic idea was very fruitful. But at the time, Ptolemy's model was much better developed and as such more correct. Early heliocentrism had a lot of potential, but it wasn't ready yet. The most important thing about their work was not the model itself, which they were dying for, but that they questioned the foundations of astronomy and chose a scientific approach to test them.
