Great educational video! In my opinion, VSL should continue with this type of clips with which they will provide a larger number of their - and not just theirs, well-educated users. In several last video clips VSL shows that Guy Bacos is the right choice in spreading the highest quality music sensibility. This impressive stylish music document talks about it. Maestro JW would be proud of this work. Well done!

Excellent video, @Guy. I believe that I heard "ET-ish", "Star Wars-ish", "Indiana Jones-ish", and serveral other "John Williams-ish" passages and motifs in your illustrative composition. Not an easy feat in a brief tutorial. I *always* learn something valuable about VSL Library & Software articulation and MIDI control in VSL software & DAW mechanics from each in this series of videos that you have been creating and sharing lately. Thank you. ☮💟 Also, fwiw, the two orchestration books that you "scroll" at the beginning of your video are two of the very good ones that I like to have have handy in my personal library. They're both rather "dense for reading and digesting cover to cover", however I've also found them quite useful when treating them somewhat like "encyclopedic lookup reference books" as various specific needs arise. Now, they both are widely available as ebooks as well as paperbacks from major online book sellers. Consequently, searching the ebooks for specific topics of interest is so easy, as compared to using a paperback to first, "find the right chapter" in a Table of Contents or an Index section, and then scanning through paper pages to "find the right details" of interest.

Thank you so much, Jim, for your kind words and for taking the time to share your feedback! You're absolutely correct-John Williams' iconic soundtracks have been a huge influence on this illustrative composition. Capturing even a hint of his brilliance in a brief tutorial is a challenge, but I'm thrilled you picked up on those "ET-ish," "Star Wars-ish," and "Indiana Jones-ish" moments. Comments like yours make the effort of creating these tutorials worthwhile. Thanks again for your support and for watching-much appreciated! Best,

Das ist ein sehr beeindruckendes Demo-Stück. Ich persönlich hätte ein wenig mehr Hall verwendet und Raum. Aber das ist ja Geschmackssache. Eine tolle Leistung!

Very great class! If it was so easy to come up with a convincing piano sketch in the first place... Any inspiring resources for that?
@guybacos
@guybacos 11 күн бұрын
Thanks, Michael! That's an interesting question, and you nailed it with the keyword "convincing." The clearer your vision of how you want the passage to sound, combined with detailed notations or a sequencer recording that includes all the accents, dynamics, and nuances, the easier it will be to transition from piano to orchestra. For instance, if your piano sketch features a prominent accent, it will likely call for adding percussion in the orchestration.

Is it possible with Synchron player to change the instrument AFTER the “atmostphere”, articulation, mic position has been tweaked to get the general sound you are looking for? Basically locking the mixer and articulation mapping and all that while trying to see which instrument best suites the voicing.

With instruments that come with the same structure, that's easily possible. You might have to move a key-switch here and there, depending on the instruments. - Paul
