Hi Andy, thanks for putting these video's together. I love being able to follow along and complete a full dashboard along with the video. If anyone else was confused about where the sheets were if you right click on the dashboard tab and select unhide all sheets they open up.

These two videos have transformed the way I approach dashboards. I used to waste a lot of time trying to line containers up using blank widgets and didn't understand why some containers would go haywire when I adjusted the dashboard while others stayed in place. Now I'm going through my legacy dashboards and ditching all the blanks. It's amazing how much better my chart elements align.

Cannot remember where I saw the following tip but I saw someone putting a blank in every container they added to a dashboard and the colouring the background of the blank to a pastel colour. This made it very easy to see all the containers as well as providing an anchor point within each container. The blanks were then deleted after the rest of the contents of the container had been added. I have used this technique and find it useful with more complicated container layouts.

But what's the benefit of putting a blank as a placeholder?

@@HaiLeQuang The way they design the dashboard is at follow: (1) Draw on a sheet of paper the containers that they'll need (or you can use Excalidraw) (2) Drag in those containers into the dashboard and arrange them based on your design in (1). Once you can do (2) you can see that it's impossible to realize which one is which ( I think this is one of the limitations of Tableau). But if you drag in a blank and put color on it, then it becomes clear which one is which. The last step, (3), is to drag in the sheets with the vizzes and then delete those blanks. Hope it helps!

Hi Andy! Not containers related but was wondering if you could do a video showing the calculations for different types of common headline figures? :) Personally struggle quite a bit with coming up with calculations to get headline figures such as "Change in %" (E.g: Makeover Monday Week 10 IOC Games -- change in women participation), "Maximum Profit earned" etc.

Why do you need to put blank objects as placeholders? What's the benefit?

The blank object, for me, makes it easier to place the other objects in the correct containers. I think I explain that in the video.
