This was one of the best Illustrator tutorials I've ever watched! I am a self-taught graphic designer, so I've got pockets of knowledge that allow me to do what I need to do, but I've also got quite a few gaps. This tutorial goes through all of the important tools without being exhausting. It filled a TON of gaps for me in about an hour!

Agreed. I'd normally ignore a video like this as too basic, but I learned a lot of little things I wouldn't have ever figured out on my own.

59:20 Instead of creating custom swatches with the lines, you could make the lines/abstract shape a pattern and select the option to size the pattern to the art. It behaves much better that way
@williebruno27792 жыл бұрын
At around 1:08:47, another way to round out that corner is to use the direct selection tool (A). Just select that specific anchor at the upper right, a circle with a dot in it's center will appear. Pull that circle 45 degrees downward opposite (in this case left), and it will start rounding that corner. How much roundness you want depends how far you pull the circle.

Good tutorial! Few notes: 58:52 (Use the pathfinder with the intersect option and you'll be left with the design you wanted in a square form) 1:00:41 Trim only the right and bottom edges so that you don't create white spaces when the shape repeats itself

59:43 sideways line works when you double click the pattern Swatch then tick the size tile to art and move tile with art. Also it helps me a lot thank you.

Illustrator is probably one of the MOST useful programs in the Adobe spectrum, but I'm not sure I will ever feel like I will master it. I don't use it every day, so I struggle when I need to. Thanks to videos like this, I can get through it. Thank you.

NTS: PATHFINDER 30:01 Join, minus front, intersect, exclude (opposite of Intersect) 32:10 Divide - where the shapes overlap are separated into separate shapes 33:40 Shape Builder Tool - Combine separate shapes into one 47:30 Smooth Tool - smoothes out a line 49:10 Knife Tool - Can cut apart shapes like a knife 56:50 Add Shapes/Patterns to Swatches (kinda sucks but OK)

Thanks for the tutorial. A good tip for zooming in and out is ALT mouse scroll wheel. You don't need to fill a shape to make it a clipping mask - the clipping shape doesn't need a fill or a stroke. I can't get the stripy fills to work either.
