Hey Marieta. I'm new to Davinci resolve and i'm always looking to improve my colour grading. Just came across this video and I have to say even though I didn't understand anything, your way of talking and showing how everything works feels so soothing and simple. In the future please create a series of videos for colour grading basics so noobs like me can gradually come upto split toning and understanding the deeper topics. Also each time you used a keyboard shortcut and u put it in the screen really shows you care for your subs who have no idea which shortcuts are which. Keep rocking. You just gained a new sub! Have a great time here.

Welcome to KZbin! Great first video and I'm glad to hear you're enjoying my DCTLs 😄 Some feedback on the video creation side: - Consider using a smaller screen resolution or bigger display scaling as many are watching these on 1080p screens or even phones (for Windows users, it can be set inside Resolve's preferences > User tab > UI Settings > UI Display Scale) - Don't be afraid to Zoom in on parts of the UI when explaining something for the first time - As Resolve's UI is rather complex, when highlighting small parts here and there, consider also adding an arrow that points there to draw the eye of the viewer - 24 seconds to get into the meat of the video is pretty good! In the KZbin world, shorter tends to be better. - Plus points on not asking for user interaction at the beginning as so many do. - Love all the visual graphics! Are you using some kind of presets for those?

Hey Kaur, absolutely, your DCTLs are wonderful! Thank you for stopping by and for sharing your feedback, it's so valuable! I'll make sure to solve all of these going forward. I create most of my graphics myself as I have a background in 2D motion graphics animation and I also use presets from Envato for After Effects and Premiere Pro. @@marietafarfarova I am not a professional by any means, but i think it does an excellent job at getting the kodak 2383 look. I have compared it to dehancer and feel that dehancer does better in terms of color noise. Also with cineprint 16, i feel like things break up a little more in the shadows and you have to be very careful with darker scenes. All of my recent videos on my channel have been graded with cineprint16. I feel it also gives you more granular control over settings than dehancer.

@marietafarfarova
@marietafarfarova 7 ай бұрын
I'm so glad you found it useful! So in my fixed node tree I usually have all my OFX (incl. film grain, texture pop, etc.) in a parallel stack at the end because it makes visual sense for me and it keeps things organised. You can do serial nodes as well if that works better for you. For example, if you have Halation, you should keep that before any softening operations because it works best on sharp edges. Hope that makes sense. Thanks!

Nice color grading video techniques, clean and pro ! I have two questions ... When you create the RED IDT at 1:55 you use Gamut Mapping -> Saturation Compression with the default values, whats the trick ? :) At 2:17 you add a LUT to REC709, is it more accurate then using a CST? Can't wait for your next video! Thanks for sharing yours skills
@marietafarfarova
@marietafarfarova 6 ай бұрын
Thank you! So I noticed some gamut clipping in the orange headlights of the cars when I had Gamut Mapping switched off. Therefore, I came back to the IDT, I turned on Saturation Compression and the default values solved the issue. I'm not quite sure why this occurred with this specific footage. But there is no trick, really. This was me just troubleshooting an issue with the footage. But normally, you should have turned off both Tone Mapping and Gamut Mapping when you're going from one large timeline colour space such as RWG to another, e.g. LogC3 or DWG. Tone Mapping and Gamut Mapping are useful only when you're trying to shrink a lot of information into a tiny colour space such as Rec.709. Yes, I prefer Arri's technical LUT because I find that it gives me more pleasing results, especially in the skin tones. Both CST and a manufacturer's technical LUT are technically correct and accurate. It's just about personal preference and which one you think gives you a better starting point. I hope this helps and thank you for your support. My next video will be out very soon, just finishing the thumbnail. 😊

@@BFMwithStackhouse Yes, I do all my editing in Premiere Pro and once the edit is picture-locked, I do a roundtrip to DaVinci Resolve for colour. There are two ways to conform an edit from another NLE in Resolve -by importing an .xml of the timeline + all the used media or by importing a clean ProRes file without any colour and doing a detect scene-cut in Resolve. I am so sorry, Abhi. I will sort this out in future videos to ensure everything is visible! Thank you for bearing with me. With this being my first video I was sure something wouldn't be right. I appreciate your feedback.

I really don't like grain in this particularly shot. But explanation is good and understanding.

Thank you so much! Of course, grain, just like most things in colour grading, is quite subjective. It is fairly heavy so I understand where you're coming from. Thanks again!

Hi, I think you made a mistake or left out an important part, the CST you made should not have made it look like Rec709, yet it does. You should have a very flat image. Did you convert in on the Timeline node? EDIT** never mind i found it later on in the video

Thank you for your note. I'll simplify my ways of working in future videos and keep everything on the Clip level to avoid any confusion. Thank you for bearing with me as I work out how to teach in a clear and straightforward way!

Nice video but the Subtractive Colour method actually makes no difference, if you have an exact inverse of the grade you applied in the method 1 section then it will be identical. This is easiest to prove by using lift and gain. For method 1, type in RGB gain to 1.2, 0.8. 0.7 and set Luminance Mixer to 0 (typing values ensure they are exact). For method 2, make a new version and construct the splitter node tree with the inverse operations, but now in the Cyan branch type in Y-Lift to -0.1, in Magenta set Y-lift to +0.1, and in Yellow set Y-lift to +0.15 (for some reason gain changes make half as much difference as lift changes). If done correctly you will see that both versions give the same result.

Why do you have that obnoxious music behind your voice. When people listen to tutorials, they want to hear every word you have to say nobody wants to hear music. This isn’t into drama and we’re not gonna get up and dance… Get rid of the stupid music!
