Welcome to Part 8 of our Mastering the Mix series! Today, we’re exploring the creative combination of DTF (Direct to Film) and heat-applied materials by pairing DTF transfers with ThermoFlex Vinyl. This mix allows us to produce a spooky and fun design that’s perfect for a cozy movie night. Using Tubro Vinyl alongside DTF elevates the design by adding depth and color that heat transfer vinyl alone can’t achieve. Let’s dive into the process!
Why DTF and Turbo Vinyl?
DTF transfers are great for detailed, multicolor designs without the hassle of weeding. By combining DTF with Turbo Vinyl, we can add vibrant pops of color and dimension to our project, taking it to the next level. Turbo Vinyl applies smoothly and peels hot, making it an ideal material for layering with DTF transfers.
Step-by-Step Process
Prepare Your Garment: We’re starting with a long-sleeve Bella+Canvas T-shirt. The first step is to thread the T-shirt onto our 15x15 WALLAPress, which is covered with Teflon to ensure smooth pressing and protect the material. This also helps maintain even pressure during the press.
Apply the Turbo Vinyl: Before adding the DTF transfer, we’ll first press the Turbo Vinyl. This prevents any lifting issues that could occur when pressing the DTF on top. Position the Turbo design about a hand’s width below the collar, and press at 320°F for 10-15 seconds. Turbo Vinyl peels hot, so you can move quickly through the process.
Add the DTF Transfer: With the Turbo in place, it’s time to add the main attraction-our spooky DTF transfer. Position it in the center of the design, over the Turbo, and press at 320°F for 15 seconds. Be sure to let the DTF transfer cool before peeling. If peeling warm proves difficult, you can set the garment on a cool surface for a few moments to make peeling easier.
Double Tap for Durability: After peeling the DTF transfer, we recommend giving the garment a quick double tap with the press. This ensures that both the Turbo Vinyl and DTF transfer are securely bonded to the fabric.
Final Product: The result? A stunning, multi-dimensional design that’s perfect for a spooky movie night-Scary Movies and Chill! The combination of DTF and Turbo Vinyl creates a unique look with bold colors and texture, something you just can’t achieve with either material alone.
Pro Tip for DTF Transfers:
When working with DTF transfers, sometimes peeling warm can be tricky. If this happens, place your pressed shirt on a cool surface for a few seconds. This helps cool the transfer quickly and allows for a smooth peel, ensuring a perfect finish every time.
