There are not many industry techs that have the experience and knowledge that Ian does. This is a high value hour and 28 mins of waxing information. There's always something to learn. Thank you Ian

What a great resource. As someone trying to learn this on their own, ski waxing -- kick waxing in particular -- can seem like some sort of mystical lore. You have to pick up bits and pieces here and there, and it feels impossible to get the full picture. So it's great to be able to watch something like this at my own pace and just absorb. What I'm learning is that ski waxing is science, experience, intuition, and a little guesswork all mixed together. Thank goodness our local coaching staff handle the kick waxing for youth races!

Hi Ian. Great stuff as always. You've written and posted videos about that Blue and Yellow mix for many many years, but I don't think you ever mentionned at what temperature you set the iron for that mix. Since it seems to be crucial to use the right T, it is not obvious when you start mixing waxes together.

Hello Ian and thanks a lot for the deeper dive in your product selection and applications. As we do have cold and try conditions these days in the german alps, I wanna give your blue favorites a try for sure. One question left: You suggest to apply 2 strokes with the structure tool and as I own the 1.0 and 1.5 sizes I wonder what you think about the uncontrollable overlayer with the seond stroke. I do produce this rhombus design layer with one stroke, but where the second exactly ends up I can´t control - extreme version being exactly hitting the position of the first stroke. Appreciate your thoughts ! Thanks a lot !

I don't think that it needs to be complicated. Two passes of the red (or even one good pass) provides a good pattern that performs very well. If I were to want to add more disruption, it would be a linear (straight line) .5, .75, or 1.0mm from the heel to the tail. This serves well to add more structure in conditions that have more moisture. - Ian H.

Is it helpful to have the skis dry horizontally for a few minutes when applying liquid paraffin wax (or is it ok to put back in ski stand immediately after application)?
@CXCAcademy23 күн бұрын
Yes this works well. Keep in mind though that one should not spray so much on that it drips down the ski. The liquid paraffin is most effective with a light spray. But I do think it works well to lay the skis flat for a bit to ensure that the wax stays properly distributed. - Ian H.

Is there a rule of thumb for hot wax and liquid paraffin combinations? E.g. if using red liquid paraffin would you use that on top of a red hot wax? Or might you still want to use a blue hot wax? Would a yellow liquid paraffin generally go best with yellow hot wax?
@CXCAcademyАй бұрын
With Toko, we generally go with one color harder on the base layer when using Liquid Paraffin. For example, when using Red Liquid paraffin, we generally go with a Blue hot wax underlayer. - Ian

For base binder application - does it matter whether you use heat gun or iron? If using iron, I take it that iron should only be used for grip wax (including klister?). Do you only use the heat source on the first layer?
@CXCAcademyАй бұрын
It doesn't matter if you use heat gun or iron. I personally find it easier to control the heat of an iron compared to a heat gun. Yes, only heat the binder layer (first layer). - Ian

You can use the same iron but you need to clean it very, very well. For me that's too much fuss, and I don't want to buy another iron, so I use a heat gun for my base binder and have no issues.
