I honestly love The more personal touch a song has. Quality is important for industry standards, but I also feel like that’s what kills the individuals out there writing music out of a box.

Thanks for the video! For those who are just getting started I'd suggest trying out Reaper. Working with groups and subgroups of instruments is so much easier in Reaper, it's literally like working with folders in file manager.

just a heads up. it's actually a useful trick to bypass your submix with some effects processing. let's say you have a tone of saturation, serial compression, etc through your signal path, and you don't want the reverbs or delays eating up a lot of headroom. send the effects to stereo out before you limit so they remain relatively unprocessed. I tried it and it really helps certain things breathe a lot.

Logic is pretty cool (Full disclosure: I've never used the other DAWs (except Garageband and Opcode's Vision - which dies a long time a go)). Channel strips are a very good idea.

I work the same way, the only thing I would add that I always do is when you make a new track, hit ctrl+t to make the track appear in your playlist and you can move it to a good position that makes sense and your mixer will adjust to suit, and then of course ctrl+c to pick a colour that you should probably keep the same from project to project so you can find your relevent tracks at just a single quick glance.

Bro my band does our band practice through headphones from the interface and DAW. If you could make a video on how I should approach building a mix that would make band practice sound amazing that would be a huge help! Like is it smart to set a sidechain compressor for a whole setlist with one setting or is that something you should only add when mixing for example

Great video. For Mac users Logic Pro is inexpensive, easy to use, comes with a ton of content, and has Alchemy which is a world-class synthesizer. No other DAW can match it.

I agree I can't afford a mac right now, so I'm stuck with fl studio. It drives me crazy, but when I visited the apple store and used Pro Logic, it worked like a dream. Instant love.

thank you for this. i am at a point in mixing that feels like the far away perimeter of being decent. familiar with compression, eq, bussing and such, but find myself wondering what good workflow practices look like. rn i am mixing down my virtual instruments, bouncing, and then bringing that in to a new file for mixing home studio recorded drum tracks separately (literally one man band but also frankenstein studio lol). so now i am wondering about things like should i eq the instrumental track again, once i am mixing drums in new project file? do i eq every bus i use? is it ok to add a standard eq and a vintage console eq together on one track? this stuff is a science, but subjective too! anyway, this helped me organize some thoughts about establishing my workflow (which i am still in the pupae stages of developing). cheers! stay hydrated

Love it, specially the the part about the buses and the sub-buses. One question: if I have a massive computer setup (great processor, lots of RAM, NVMe for the DAW, SSD for plug-ins) could I, or should record at higher buffer size?
@masteringcom
@masteringcom 3 жыл бұрын
Nope, you can stick with a lower buffer size! The lower the buffer size, the less latency you'll have (even with a great computer).

FL studio user here, funnily enough I barely see my DAW being mentioned in more traditional usage such as mixing and mastering engineers. It's mostly popular within electronic music production. However I'm a strong believer I can absolutely make it work with any genres, I'm mainly using third party plugins, and I know my DAW fairly well, so I see no point in learning new DAW.

This is a great mindset to have! Your DAW matters far less than the songs you create in them. Stick with what you know and create!

Yeah I use FL Studio as well. I make Dark Progressive Rock, and I feel like it wouldn't matter in the slightest which DAW you use. As long as it's compatible with VST plugins.

I use studio one, and I love this DAW! I've used a bit of ableton and seen a lot of people work in logic....I really think studio on has a wonderful layout and smooths workflow quite a bit with all the drag and drop. Also, the native synth voices are fantastic, and have used them quite a bit aswell. I spend any time I'm not working on music, watching videos like these, and am always looking for new information to help me grow as a musician and producer.

Work in the one you know and understand! I use Logic cause I own a Mac. But can work in other DAWs. I’d just need EZ Drummer…and Melodyne if there’s no manual pitch correction.

Jonas Pelmeni at the end of the day no one can hear what DAW you use, just how good your music is. You should just use what works for you without judging other people for their choice.
