I remember my grandma telling me the story of the battle, she is still alive and healthy, but she told me how an American fighter plane almost shot her down while hiding in a cave. (The Japanese were notorious for ambushing in caves.) She also told me when the her and her family missed the last escape boat and later got torpedoed while her family watched it all happen.
