The thing the amazes me is that Jimi played this stuff spontaneously, by ear, while we need days or even weeks to transcribe the one single song.
@justinjames8023 жыл бұрын
That's not true mate. Jimi was always coming up with stuff like this whilst jamming, at home or in the studio. He'd change them around and remake them. Villanova junction is a good example, there's several recorded versions and studio jams where he'd just break into it but if you listen to the Woodstock version you'd think he just made it up on the spot. Some parts may have been improvised but Jimi already had the basis of everything he did down.

Hey man what a great choice! I’m a big Jimi Hendrix fan and I love how you gravitate to the more obscure stuff. This is one of my favorite songs and I played the heck out of this box set when it came out. It’s one of those songs where you feel you’re the only one in the world who knows it lol! So glad I came across you’re channel. Great playing bro! This is a great moment in time for Hendrix jamming with his friends, thanks for the cover. Rock on man!

Rkb Exactly. I was researching the jimi/ Larry Lee stuff; hard to find. Tip: Larry Lee became Al Greens music director. Interesting to compare Jimi with another guitarist, instead of hearing “ oh Jimi was a genius “, all the time.

just found out today that larry lee and hendrix rented a farm house 10 min up the road from where i live in 1969. So a great cover and so much great history. R.i.p jimi and lee. Did lee see any of the money before he died in 2007? Looks like everything got credited to him after his death? the discography says that at least.

Also why isnt there footage of this from woodstock if the whole performance was filmed?
@siggeek5036 жыл бұрын
The filmteam at Woodstock were changing packs in the camera. So that’s why this one with a few others didn’t get captured on camera.
I have a lot of Woodstock footage from different angels and different quality. I think I have most if not all that's been recorded. And that's a lot more than the original film. And in way different order.

Thanks, Always enjoy these Hendrix posts. Well i have you let me ask... During the Woodstock performance There's a section in it where Hendrix goes into this thing where he's walking the 6th E with his thumb while playing, I believe it segways into Villa-nova Junction, I can't remember for sure, i haven't seen it for so long, Do you no if that's actually a titled track or is it just nodding for lack of better words. There used to be a video on KZbin of that actual part where the original poster slowed it down so the viewer could get a better look at what Hendrix was doing ,But i think its been pulled since then, I've been trying to remember what it was and can't do you know? Thanks Man.
@greggggg6 жыл бұрын
It's called "Woodstock Improvisation". I did a cover of that one kzbin.info/www/bejne/rZjYmZJtnrljjqc, the thumb part is at 3:10

@ASAPFos6 жыл бұрын
What kind of chord are you playing in the beginning? I watched a lot of your videos and you okay it on almost every song.
@greggggg6 жыл бұрын
It's an A octave played at the 12th fret, 5th string. The chord you're talking about I play in most of my videos is a major chord with root on 5th string, you confuse them because the shape is similar

Jimi never played that song at Woodstock! Well, not according to Janie, Eddie and John. They even prevented the 50th Anniversary Woodstock compilers from using it and Gypsy Woman in the new box set that is supposed to be the complete Woodstock.
@Rickeyjt4 жыл бұрын
Where are they from then? Their pre-woodstock rehearsals? I only discovered hearing them maybe ten years ago from a different ws compilation. Beautiful arrangements.
