One of the best period romance series ever written and portrayed on TV. Really showed how abiding, sacrificial love can survive sickness and health, better and worse, richer and poorer, etc. and still allow people to make mistakes and be forgiven and grow as individuals and as a couple. I also appreciate how the love scenes were handled with dignity to the actors and left the graphic details to the imagination of the viewer. Wish more modern TV would do the same.
@junewilson162910 ай бұрын
yes, absolutely agree with how the love scenes were portrayed. And of course, credit to the actors how their chemistry on screen just came right out of the TV to the viewer. Though I venture to say the sacrificial love part back then was merely out of necessity - mainly because there was no other choice. If women like Demelza and Elizabeth had the necessary education and more so the world back in those times wasn't as male chauvinistic then they would probably not have put up with some of the issues they had to endure. Bottom line Elizabeth was a spoiled miss goody two shoe who expected to be catered to (based on her looks) and who suffered from entitlement. Demelza was - as Ross recognized the stronger one, more likely to survive and stand up for what she believed was the right thing to do and of course stood up for justice. Elizabeth was too coward for that. She just took the path of least resistance. Can't rightly say whether one should blame her for it as that to her meant survival. Where I am also the stronger personality who tends to stand up for what I believe is the right thing to do regardless of the price to pay - only because I can afford to be so stubborn.

Being two years post my husband’s infidelity I cannot even explain how impactful this series has been. I never heard of it till recently, but I so needed it. There are no examples on tv of love that pushes through a lack of judgement as this, infidelity. Everything is: once a cheater always a cheater. Divorce his sorry a** etc. But this story had been so powerful, for our case is similar where my husband is repentant. Seeing Damelza’s anger and her thoughts and feelings was also so validating too. I’m only just starting season 3
@PunsandPixels6 ай бұрын
And when Damelza tells him that she used to revere him and that her pride in him was broken, I cried because that is exactly how I felt about my husband. I would put my hands in the fire for him. I no longer idolize him, he is human. And in many ways it made me realize just like Damelza that he is lucky to have me by his side. This series couldn’t have come at a better time in my life. I would have hated it if I had seen it before the affair. I would have hated Ross and been so put off by it all, I wouldn’t have continued watching. But now…now I can appreciate how real it is. The most real love story I have ever seen on screen

I remember seeing on one interview where Eleanor is asked what it is she thinks makes the series "Poldark" so successful; given the amazing actors, their chemistry together and the beautiful scenery - the real reason it is so successful in my opinion is because good triumphs over evil - love over hate and envy, beauty triumphs over ugly and empathy over greed. The way men held each other to such a standard of being a gentlemen and the way the woman loved and supported their husbands and family despite them being ignored and neglected, the way they stuck together to build a life was just so precious and tremendous.... the way society is today, I think so many people want to go back to this innocence somehow!!

So happy to have found this series recently! Am now on my second rerun of the series. A lot of beautiful scenes between Ross and Demelza. Never liked the scenes between Ross and Elizabeth for obvious reasons. I feel so much for Demelza and angry at Ross for hurting her each time (unwittingly, unknowing, unintentionally - whatever he calls it). Why do you have to gallop your way to Trenwith gates and stare at the house (or whoever) after that awful night? Why did you have to go see Elizabeth after you received her letter announcing her marriage to George?! I hated the scenes which followed. Especially when you told Demelza to "get out of my way" I can feel my stomach churn! But I love each time you called Demelza "my love", each time you held her in your arms as you walk, each time you call out her name like you need her, each time you call her "my wife."
@junewilson162910 ай бұрын
Elizabeth was a miss goody two shoe who, in today's terms (rather in MY terms) is a spoiled brat who is infected with entitlement. Thus, Ross' "she was born to be admired." Good lord, could she have been any more highty mighty and undeservedly at that??? Now Demelza could possibly have prevented the dreadful night from happening had she immediately hopped on her horse and followed Ross to Trenwith. Ross would most likely not have gone to the extend with Demelza being in the room upstairs. Now, that type of situation would in all probability have made it just as painfully bad for Demelza because she would have always wondered whether she could now trust Ross that nothing would have happened if she hadn't been there. I did feel a resentful sense of satisfaction when she had her dalliance with Hugh Armitage. Served Ross right. Not that she did it for those very reasons, but the end result was essentially the same. Ross got to walk a mile in her shoes. And the bittersweet salt in the open wound was he actually rescued Hugh Armitage from the French prison. What irony. At any rate, I had no sympathy for Miss Good-Two shoe Elizabeth ever. She made her own bed and so she slept in it as she should have. I had to give Demelza's character a lot of credit for how she coped with Ross' indiscretion. I am not sure how forgiving I would have been. Of course back then when women were at their men's mercy, what much choices did they have? And one more thing. Ross did always stand up for Demelza to anyone who referred to her as his kitchen trull or who commented that she should go back to her scullery. Though at the end of the day, those very comments were also insults to him and his choice of having married her. But I don't think that's why he beat the living daylight out of Georgie or reprimanded Judd Paynter. It was merely to defend her honor.

I thought Heida was fantastic as Elizabeth. I couldn't stand the original Elizabeth in the old version - trite, two dimensional character. But Heida really brought out the conflict and dichotomy Elizabeth had to live with. She could have fallen into the trap of making Elizabeth a hated character who got in the way of Ross and Demelza, but instead she made her a more sympathetic character caught in a passionless marriage and knowing she lost Ross.

Hello to the great actors, the director and the whole team, I enjoyed watching all the seasons of the series. two episodes left to watch and I wish the series to go on and on. Many years ago my dear mother used to watch the first version of Poldark, I sat next to her and watched. Thank you for a great game! Complements from a Literary Researcher, Israel.🙏🏻😍🙋🏻♀️🌷🌷

I love these two, the best characters of the show!!! I am enjoying the last season; I am sad but I know we will have the re-runs!!! Sunday was hilarious when I saw George running across the field in that camisole looking like a lunatic , I though I was seeing a scene out of the dark ages!!! My son could not believe how much I find this episode enjoyable !!! Ross Poldark keeps me on my toes and I love him for that!!! I want to know everything he will do in the future!!! MERCI CAPTAIN ROSS !!!

Really enjoy the show. The great and nuanced acting, as well as beautiful landscape and cinematography, make up for the cornball romance novel bits.

Well, he is 9 years older than she is, but I'm with you. I can't believe she wouldn't have been head over heals. :) She did admit he's gorgeous! Apparently, she dated Harry Richardson for a while. Now there's someone I wouldn't mind either! This show was just full of male eye candy!

@@wendyscott8425 she was 21 and he 30 when they began filming. He likewise said she was gorgeous and "hard not to fall in love with her" - maybe they agreed to keep it professional - as he said if they didn't get along the viewers would recognize it. I think they made an amazing couple off screen as well as on.

And have the main characters replaced by black-Africans like Idris Elba? No. Leave as it is, racially pure and wholesome.

I’m just now finishing the whole 12 book series and I SO wish that this tv series would have gone all the way through. The development of Ross and Demelzas relationship is so refreshing after all the drama in their early marriage with Ross/Elizabeth and Demelzas affair. Also the story of their kids is one worth sharing as well. Maybe when these actors age a bit they will finish it 😊

I think, having read the books, and watched the series, that the line “see what WE’VE brought her to!” Is the most loaded line in the series. What does that mean? Does George know about Valentine? I think he does. Does he feel guilty about the battle between him and Ross? Is he telling Ross he knows, and that Ross is as guilty as he? Brought her to. But she died in childbirth. He couldn’t possibly know about the tincture that Elizabeth took.🤔. The best and most enigmatic line.
@TheConfusername3 жыл бұрын
In the 5th series (second episode, I think), Ross does ask George what he meant by that very line. George tells him that it was a combination of Ross's inability to let Elizabeth go and his (George's) UNFOUNDED suspicions that hounded her to an early grave. George tells Ross, "I take my share of the blame -- take yours." (Another great line!) Of course, Ross can't tell him that his suspicions were completely justified. To protect Valentine, he has to let George live with the guilt that will contribute to the madness that nearly destroys him.

This is the best movie we’ve seen in a long time. Hollywood is no comparison with actors or acting.

I don't blame Aidan for avoiding questions about the cything scene. So many other scenes with his shirt off that was sexier. In bed, inside the mine, burning his shirt by the water etc. It's the million little things that matter. The kisses that came in threes and ten. The sound of their lips when kissing, hugging and holding hands. I will miss them 💕💓
@ellieg404 жыл бұрын
but it was the scything scene that put the show high in the ratings - he knew what he was doing and why.

How lowly those that get all flustered about Aidan without his shirt. Spectacular acting and all that goes in to producing a MASTERPIECE such as Poldark, and one gets OFF on a shirtless guy. Quite telling and sadistic. Bless POLDARK!
