I remember as a kid going to the British open at St Andrew’s. The year John daly won the claret jug. I sat at the 17th hole behind the green and watched all the field come through. Some all time greats. I remember seeing Greg Norman and he looked 7ft tall, looked like the most confident man in the world, then this young lad came through, not even scoring that well, but when he hit the ball it made a different noise to everyone else. Moved quicker. I didn’t realise at the time I was seeing one of the greatest, just a kid closer to my age than the rest of the field. Feel Lucky to have seen this man hit a golf ball at the home of golf

I hear people step on Tiger's legacy all the time and it's sad. A man who's made a mistake and has paid his due for it publicly, privately and with dignity. In my own personal opinion I've given him the GOAT tag of all athletes I've luckily been able to watch. Respect

@@meroneadawson6847 exactly. @@manvesh97 same, I think public opinion of him has just about turned around completely. I think proof of this is Tiger's newly found comfort in media and the public, I think the important people in his life have reassured him that its ok he made mistakes, you can correct them. What's important is to live an honest, open, HAPPY life.
@kourt24694 жыл бұрын
One thing about Tiger that made him more forgivable was that he never had an ego about it. He never blamed anyone else other than himself. Admitted to his mistakes and owned them. That's easier to forgive than someone who blames other things for their mistakes.

Some of your best work there Trottie! It was Tiger Woods that inspired me to pick up a golf club in 2000, and it's because of this, my children are now enjoying the sport. Tiger Woods is the greatest thing to happen to golf in its history. Broke down barriers, smashed stereotypes, put the sport in the limelight, inspired millions to take up the game, brought in the dollars which players are all enjoying now, and catapulted the whole industry into a place it never would have reached. With my greatest respect to Jack, Arnie, and all the greats before him, Tiger is undoubtedly the GOAT.

@rufussthoo40834 жыл бұрын
I totally agree Trottie. Let's all thank Tiger for what he has done for the modern game, and for some us directly. His 2019 Masters comeback inspired my to take up a game I had 'lost' for nearly 30 years. In taking it back up I rediscovered a passion I had forgotten, although it seems it was always there lurking under the surface. At 61 yrs of age my club moves a little slower and my drives are a little shorter (well, a lot really) but I'm well on my way back to a single digit handicap. Win or simply compete, Tiger inspires so many of us to just play. Cheers.

I think it's not unspeakable to suggest that the technology boom with modern golf equipment, from movable weighting, to custom fitting hosels, to twist face, to shaft tech and launch monitors, is in large part thanks to Tiger Woods. Where would this game be without him? He is primarily responsible for making golf mainstream and cool in the early 2000's. Which brought in big sponsor money, and TV money, and endorsement money. Which, in turn helped drive the innovation and technology attention being paid to produce better and better golf equipment.

I think the intimidation Tiger had was overhyped he was just a lot better at scoring consistently over 4 rounds. The 2000 US Open is a prime example, even with the best players today using modern equipment would struggle to finish even par, let alone a few under, let alone -12
