Based on Donald L. Miller’s book of the same name, and scripted by John Orloff, “Masters of the Air” follows the men of the 100th Bomb Group (the “Bloody Hundredth”) as they conduct perilous bombing raids over Nazi Germany and grapple with the frigid conditions, lack of oxygen, and sheer terror of combat conducted at 25,000 feet in the air. Portraying the psychological and emotional price paid by these young men as they helped destroy the horror of Hitler’s Third Reich, is at the heart of “Masters of the Air.” Some were shot down and captured; some were wounded or killed. And some were lucky enough to make it home. Regardless of individual fate, a toll was exacted on them all.
The series features a stellar cast led by Academy Award nominee Austin Butler, Callum Turner, Anthony Boyle and Nate Mann, who are joined by Raff Law, Academy Award nominee Barry Keoghan, Josiah Cross, Branden Cook and Ncuti Gatwa.

Nothing will ever beat BOB but I think that's also partly because, we had the chance to listen to the real people behind the story talk about their experience in-between the episodes. It's really good. I'm just saying all the heroes that fought in that war. My grandfather landed on Normandy on D day and he told me about the landing 20 years before private rayan came out. And the landing seen looks pretty accurate. He said you had all your gear on and they didn't ask if you could swim when that door opened. He said he watched guys never come up. All those guys in ww2 and all wars are heroes in my book.

He also built model planes with me, the p51 mustang. Best childhood memories for me. Here I am as a 33 year old woman and spent a decade excited for masters of the air, all thanks to my dad 😄

Hollywood needs to make a lot of money and the proceeds of this movie should be given to a fund that helps our veterans for without them they couldn't make these movies. I knew a number of WWII aviators and few of them thought it was a glory job.

The Navy actually had the highest death rate of any branch of the military on a % basis in the US military in WW2. My grandad was a fighter-bomber pilot in the pacific theater, he rarely like talked about it. Started as a Lt, left as a major.

Ww2 is full of stories. On the day of the liberation, in a town in belgium, a girl got married, wearing an american parachute as a wedding dress. I'm not sure if it was to an american soldier but it still touched me ;)

A long time ago I found a website repository of WWII Medal of Honor recipient stories. Just incredible what transpired and these were just the ones that had been vindicated and recorded. So many more likely lost to time. I wish I could find that website again. It was specifically for the air corps.

My Grandpa was a pilot for the Soviet Union during WW2 (born and stationed in Ukraine). He died a few years ago. He told us stories about him being shot down, partying in liberated Germany and shaking hands with the son of Stalin (also a pilot during WW2). He´d love to see something like this.

Supposedly HBO didn't want to take another risk with these producers as the latest installment "The Pacific" didn't do too well. That one costed about 250M to make and it lost to other series in popularity (viewership) which had 20x smaller budget. It's not very clear how much HBO did make but it wasn't a huge succes to say the least. Odd because The Pacific is a masterpiece. It's a slow starter for sure but when the action happens...

The amazing thing to me is that the flak canisters would go 1,000 ft per second, therefore at 30,000 ft it is shot with a 30 sec lead time. The Allies knew this and would change direction at a selected interval. The strategy they employed was very sophisticated

The German AA didn't aim at specific planes 6 miles up in the sky. That would have been impossible. Instead, they just aimed to put up enough lead in the right area to make flying hellish enough. Compared to Band of Brothers, this looks pretty bland. I hope the actual scenes have more humanity.

@MrRusty812. There was no deviation once you were on the bomb run(the lead bomber leading the others, about to drop their bombs.) Once they entered the flak box, the German fighters would stay out side of it and radio any changes in speed, altitude or direction to the flak batteries. It was just a waste of fuel.

I love the story of the "The Bloody Century" but if you want a "Band of Brothers" Air Force movie you need to look at the 475th Fighter Group. Not just the first, second and third highest scouring American Aces, not just the highest scouring group in Air Force history, but Charles F'ing Lindberg as well .

Looks like alot of fast moving cgi and very polished and missing the gritty realism of 'band of brothers ' and ' the Pacific'. I've a bad feeling about this...Tom, Steven..prove me wrong 🙏. I've been to Thorpe Abbotts, home of the 100th bomb group. The museum is a piece of history and all the pictures and artifacts you can see, along with the feel of the place brought it home for me. Real history. Not Hollywood's adaptation.

It treated the men and the subject with reverence and respect. But it also had actors chosen for their abilities rather than their looks. I am hoping it is better than the trailer. The CG aircraft movements are not realistic, too fast and the turns too tight. (Look at actual newsreels of dogfights). The dialogue and attitudes don't reflect 1940s US servicemen. I am hoping there is more depth than is suggested by this clip.

Great series. The only drawback aside from some obvious CGI is the casting. The thing that made "Band of Brothers" and "The Pacific" more realistic is that they didn’t pick a Hollywood prettyboy for a lead role. In the first two WWII series, the cast looked (and sounded) like the real deal. In this series, we are constantly reminded that the mumbling Brit actor once played Elvis.

It might sound weird but I even watched this series before Band of Brothers but after watching it I wasn't impressed then I realized that many fans recommended BoB and I postponed it for too long so I started watching it. Hahaha from that D-Day until now it's been 3 weeks. I rewatched BoB more than 10 times and forgot almost everything of Misters in the Air 😂

Was good, but I’d rather watch something about the RAF and the battle for Britain. There’s lots of American films, shows, docs out there on WWII - i think the British audience deserves to watch their country folk on the big screen during that time. Also, the scene where the American navigator is in Oxford listening to a lecture by a priest… He was a Scottish priest, the Scot’s were under the tyranny of the English (British) empire long before the Americans were 😂

Flying around at 30000 feet in an unpressurized bomber with no oxygen mask on is about as accurate as the Red Tails escorting the 100th Bomb Group into Germany. It's history how Hollywood wants it to be, not reality.

The red Tails were not there in the 100th when my father flew in June to Oct , '43. They had '47s that escorted them over the channel and went back. They flew the rest of the mission unescorted.
