Just the one tip of dragging and dropping an image into sketch to capture it as a material blew my mind. Amazing video. and I love including the mistakes.

You have buttons on your toolbar for hiding materials/textures. Where do you find this function? I've searched locally and also extensions. Where can I find this toolbar?

Thanks for this info. Is there an easy way to load all materials on a collection folder to the in model materials by not have using the bucket paint?

great tips thankyou... Do you know why when I try to import an image as a texture I can't place it on any surface I just see a no entry sign at mouse cursor? puzzling me :-( I'm trying to apply it to a cylinder, not sure if that's relevant.

Hi Matt, thanks for the great video. At 2:31 you see the In Model materials . They have a small triangle in the right down corner. What does this mean? A bit later the triangles are gone. Can you axplain?

Hi Matt - Great video, I just recently bit the bullet and purchased a license for Sketchup Pro 2021 (I've been using Make for years now). I can't figure out why, in Preferences, it shows a path for Materials that points to an empty directory, and when I add a folder of material files there it still doesn't show up in Sketchup. If I put the folder in the ProgramData path (where the canned material folders are) then I can see my custom materials folder. Why does it seem like it doesn't matter at all what you have defined in Preferences?

when I add a texture using an image, it is showing as material type undefined, which is giving me an error on cut list, how do I solve that?
@davidbeckwith24033 жыл бұрын
One somewhat related question I have is how to remove a texture and just have the default white front and blue back face. This is would be very helpful when editing a model that has very dark colored materials
@ryanmcbeth31603 жыл бұрын
Hi David. If you mean a single texture, then look at the Materials tab and on the right side of this tab at the top you will see three symbols. The third from the top is a square with two triangles inside it, one white and one blue. Click this icon and then you can paint the default material onto any face or group/component. If you mean to keep all textures safe but view the model with only default texture on everything, then right click on the sketchup tool bar in a place where there are no tools, select styles. You will receive a new toolbar. Dock this toolbar and then click within the toolbar on the square with a blue and white triangle-set (same symbol as we have in the materials tab). Now you will see the model with no textures and if you click this icon again, all of your textures are still there where you left them. Does this answer your question?

Really helpful video thanks. (ps are you able to make the videos as seamless as the textures ;-)

Hi Matt, can I save the materials from 3D library to an existing material folder instead of a separate one? Example: I extract a lot of metal materials only, into a model and then want to add them to the existing metal folder instead of creating a new folder. This would be much better in the long run to stay organized and avoid searching in a bunch of folders with various materials. Thanks in advance and thanks for a great channel.

I'm trying to apply a texture (image) to a multi-faced object, but I want the faces to bend the entire image. It's a plant model and the leaves are bent with multiple faces, but when I apply the picture it applies that picture to every face. Gah!

Is that in fact the picture of a paper company???
@florinapostoiuАй бұрын
You don't have to go inside of an object to sample its material, and you even can do it from inside of other objects...
