What do you think about using 3D imaging apps like Canvas or ARPlan 3D to convert photos and videos to 3D files and then modify them? Are the type of files created by those apps able to import into Sketchup for editing?

I cannot express how much I appreciate this video and your skill in teaching. I use very advanced softwares (TVPaint, Adobe, Blender) but STRUGGLED with Sketchup. It seemed so remarkably unintuitive (yes, that coming from an Adobe user). I have tried on several occasions to learn Sketchup, each time getting into a simple project, hitting a wall (no pun intended), then walking away in frustration. But this time with this video, you seem to teach the way I learn. You're concise, organized in thought, you provide a simple overview (faces, edges), and you show how its done. This time I will make this end table successfully. Then, with practice in Sketchbook, and as a woodworker, the sky will be my limit. Thank you, Matt.

@Mastersketchup Жыл бұрын
The Up arrow locks the movement along the blue axis. You just tap it to engage, don't need to hold it down. (Make sure the group is opened for editing, you need to double-click it with the select tool to open it.) 1. Select the perimeter edges with the Select tool while holding CTRL(Win) or Option (Mac) 2. Activate the Move tool, click once to start moving the selected edges. 3. Tap the up arrow, this will ensure the selected edges only move along the blue axis. 4. Move your mouse up a little bit, to indicate which direction you intend to move the edges. 5. Type in 1/4" ENTER.

Good evening, I am currently about to enter my senior year of my BAA Interior Design program, and we've been using SketchUp in every studio class since last year. Thank u for this video; I never knew how to bevel a surface, and for those into more minute details, that's an awesome process to know!! I have been on the look-out for further online resources (free ideally, but books of course I'd pay for) to learn more advanced "manipulation" of shapes from basic 2D (rectangles, arcs, circles, hexagons etc) to 3D for creating/building furniture (ie sofas, beds, light fixtures, appliances, tables etc) in SketchUp without need for extensive extensions; have any recommendations for this, please...?? I'm a very visual & hands-on learner, so videos are better for me than books...Thx in advance ☺✨

I had this same problem and it was because I clicked off the component (Table Leg) before I drew the line around the upper part of the table leg. So it was just a random line floating in space essentially and wasn't really part of the table leg, lol. Go back and double click the table leg to select the component, then draw the line, then do your taper from the bottom face of the leg and it will come out perfectly.

I also can't type in the measurements (in the bottom right hand corner) to resize the dimensions of the shape I just created. Is there a problem with the software, or did Sketchup just completely change what we're able to do using the free software? (Nov 29, 2024) Edit. I give up. After an hour of tooling around on here, I've gotten nowhere. Just give me some graph paper already: i could have sketched out what I wanted in half the time I spent here. I was not able to type in my dimensions initially because I didn't know you don't click on the dimensions box before you start typing, and I didn't know what format they want you to use...so after I figured out how to type in the dimensions, I had to learn that you have to type for example, 18",18" instead of 18"x18". Make sure you are clicked into the leg component when you draw the lines. This will split the faces. If you aren’t clicked into the component it just draws a line and it won’t reference the taper from the line. I had the same issue and just figured it out. Good luck!
