Insurance is to insure you don't lose money, it doesn't make you rich. Example : a father has savings of 1 lakh per year, he doesn't have any other income resources nor property. In next 5 years he needs 5 lakh for his daughter/son's marriage or for higher education. If something happens to him in middle ,no one is there to take of family then if he as policy which is insured for 5 lakh , his family receives 5 + bonus . He can choose term insurance which gives more money instead of endowment plan but in term insurance he won't get money back if he live long. If income is 1lakh per month then term insurance suits better. If income is less around 30-50k then endowment plan suits better. There are pension plans which gives 7.5pa thought once life
