After snugging up the knot, take the tag end and PULL it TIGHT before you clip off the tag end close to the knot. As a retired outdoor writer, I see this failed to be mentioned so much when explaining how to tie knots. Especially with braid in the lower poundage (30 to 40 lb. and less). With mono, wet the knot before you snug it up so that it cuts down on friction. If you clip the tag end too close to the knot before snugging it down, you run the risk of having the tag end slip through - especially with thin braid, or braid that is coated. With ultra-thin braided line, after snugging the knot, tie a simple overhand knot on the tag end and slide it up close to the knot and secure that before snugging it tight and clip off the excess tag end. I do this with all braided line rigs that will have a heavy load on it, such as a dipsey diver. It prevents the tag end from slipping through the knot. The distance to clip off the tag end is very good in the video. Snug up tag ends on uni knots before clipping off the excess as well.

Great knots, hint to make them stronger! If you're using monofilament line add water (even spit) before pulling them tight! Mono is porous by nature, so adding water makes them slide/tighten easier and plus it makes the knot, a heck of a LOT stronger!! No joke, little spit goes a long way!! Have fun!!

When watching knot tying videos, I always notice the little bend in the line a inch or so above the the hook, which means the line was put under a lot a friction causing the line to heat up, they say to spit on before clinching up knot which works but not all time, so what I found out is, I take a little Vaseline between thumb and finger and run line for knot threw that, cinches up perfectly. No more heat bend above my Palomar knot

already have caught a 30# Blue Cat off of these (going to try to get a 60#+ next year). kzbin.infoUgkxzXmlErSqVAEGWFEKO530BvTqFDw53QW3 Definitely very strong, and sharp. Additionally, the gap is wide enough to actually hook a fish (not always the case with circle hooks). I purchased the 8/0, but probably should have got the 9/0 (they seem slightly smaller than other 8/0 hooks). Additionally, having the point in-line helps if you drift fish. I have yet to get a serious snag with one of these hooks.

2nd knot is the improved clinch knot.. the 1st knot is better... but sometimes not necessary or convenient. The improved clinch is easier to mess up if you aren't careful
First knot is what I used to use, second is what I use now. Never have tried the third one, very very happy with the second one. And I agree it's been on it before you sent it up to lubricate it and it tightens up smoothly. I use fluorocarbon and have never had the second knot slip loose.
@kkkay73363 жыл бұрын
I had second knot slip just the other day (it's why I'm searching knots)..in fairness I was using Carolina rig with bullet sinker above knot without swivel..but still.....hung a fish and knot came untied.didnt break. It came untied .could tell by the twist in very end of hookless line...

Been fishing for 30+ years. Trilene knot is the best. You can tie it to where there is tag end. All these other knots you must have to scissor on hand ready to cut the tag end
@ULPFishing Жыл бұрын
great point! I was just thinking that you can tie that knot if you don't have cutters. +1 to you.
