What they don't understand is that the pricing to be an affiliate it's to high for most of the countries. For example, I live in Brazil, and in my city 5 years ago, we had maybe 4 affiliates gym. Today we have none. However, we have maybe 10 cross gyms not paying nothing to the company. For the prices that the gyms charge us, the gym would have to get 15 people paying for 12 months just to pay crossfit, and that's crazy. It would be more reasonable if they study the local economies to see how much the gyms can pay to be a crossfit affiliate. Now imagine how many crossfit affiliates they are losing just in Brazil with 230 million people and over 5.000 cities....

So, Mat and HWPO are going to launch affiliate programming when they don’t open their affiliate to the public and don’t actually run classes regularly? These affiliates better be ready to get wrecked. I used to follow HWPO and in one day they had assault bike intervals, cleans, snatches and front squats plus a metcon scheduled in one day. After that I said fuck this and left. Leave it to mat to not even know who was coaching one of their top level athletes. And his answer to the current state of CrossFit was a guy that has no idea what’s going on.
@PCtheCrazyAsian10 ай бұрын
Doesn’t Hiller do affiliate programming and doesn’t currently run an affiliate or public classes out of his garage? This is not a knock on Hiller or Mat at all. But to use those two things as criteria on who should or should not offer affiliate programming is interesting. You will be surprised on how many people who offer affiliate programming do not fall under that criteria. BTW I’ve heard great things about Hiller’s affiliate programming.

@mangoauto84509 ай бұрын
Hi Andrew There’s two kinds of people in my opinion, those who do CrossFit and Crossfitters. I categorize as someone who does CrossFit. Similar to golf there are pros and then there is a massive amateur and rec world. ok, with that said , in my box we get a few options per WOD . You can do level 1,2, or 3. 3 in this case is the hardest and 1 is the easiest. If you choose you can enter your score in your little app and also which workout you chose. The problem with this in my opinion is it is a little too static. If I for example choose to do 1 but I want to have a little 2 mixed in because maybe I suck at squats but am Good at chin up’s and I don’t want to do ring rows , I am Kind of In no man’s land. Then, when the CrossFit open or whatever shows up there are two choices in my affiliate , you can do scaled or Rx and it’s sort of a winner take all score if you want to look at it that way. My thought to make the amateur ranks more interesting is as follows. Let’s take a normal 21-15-9 work out for example. In this case it is 21 OHS then 21 pull up’s and so on and so forth. Ok. Let’s say I do MY chosen weight ( not the gyms but mine) , and I enter that in after. So I decide to do the bar for my OHS or 65 lbs or whatever (the maximum is the Rx) and I decide that I am going to scale my pull up’s to 19-13-7 for example. Doesn’t matter, in this dream world I choose. Now , at the end of the class I enter my numbers into the app. Over the course of time I get a handicap as in golf. now, when it comes time for the open or anything else , we have two categories - Rx (this is static) and Amateur. The amateur workout is done by all of us who “do CrossFit” and if we have a registered handicap (must have ‘x’ number of classes in to get a handicap that year our number gets adjusted based on our handicap and we are also able to see how we rank based on our cap. So you end up for example with a score that gets adjusted based on where your cap is. this, to me would give incentive to the existing CrossFit members to not only show up a certain amount but would also lead Creedence to more participation in club level scaled participation , which for all Intents and purposes is where the growth is coming from anyways. So, in this way the scaled growth is becoming more gamified and the incentive is to keep working on the handicap lowering as in golf. Lastly you might be thinking of all the sandbaggers out there who are going to pad their caps through the year , but we can somewhat address that with more handicap weight placed on the competition days, and we could probably have a competition every month with leaderboards instead of just every couple times a year , which would allow for a more indicative handicap because the tournaments would be more regular. Thoughts ?

On that affiliate participation number, if crossfit hq wants 50,000 affiliates and on average only 8 members are signing up per affiliate. That begs the question: is crossfit doing a good job spreading the word/message? Also what are coaches doing at this box that only 8 members are signing up?

no, i think it's better to have a smaller number of affiliates with more participants. It makes it feel like it matters. Would you rather have 12 football stadiums across the country that are packed out with 30,000 ppl or 300 stadiums that have 2,000 people in them. The latter would make the atmosphere feel dead and everyone going would feel like what they're doing is dead and dying.

But CF makes more revenue when there are more affiliates. So I agree with Hiller's point. They're getting the athletes' money from the open whether they're affiliated or not so I'd think CF would want the athletes/affiliate number to be LOW. It's a weird metric. I agree with that. It doesn't really tell you much because affiliates don't have a standard size or membership base.

Crossfit wants to open an infinite number of gym, or rather, have individuals take all the risk to open those gyms. They are charging a stiff affiliate due (annually), and providing less and less each year in the way of support to those individual gym owners by way of marketing, advertising, ongoing training. There is no celebration/highlight of gyms/gym owners/gym members. It's just wild to me: pay us tons of money, and get an increasingly tarnished brandname in return. I love Crossfit. I believe in it. I coach, I participate in the class workouts, and gym events. But MAAAAN...the delusion of the CF lead team is on another level.

Thats because of the space they have which is about the size of your garage! I'm sure owners would love to have more people but they would need to find another place. Which would mean actually finding a suitable place, waiting til their current lease runs out or buying out of it and probably having to increase membership fees as rent just keeps going up. We have 2 other affiliates in the area which are smaller than ours. Ones been going longer than us and the other has just opened
