What I draw today will be recognized as shape I spoke to the base and the base says we wait So I smoke an old cigar, while the giant sun fades See, I spoke to the base, and the base says we wait The base says we're safe Now and then I can see the truth above the lies Now and then, oh I feel you're truly anesthetized That's why When I walk today, it's in silence and in rain Can a man turn the page while he's trying to amaze? So I hold my arms apart but don't deny you any pain See, I spoke to the base and the base says we'll win And the base says we win Now and then I can see the truth above the lies Now and then, oh I feel those beauties, this life belies They're like street lights They tunnel on and on Into these deep nights Where the hearts are all on are so steep So steep, so steep So steep, so steep I count the falling stars So steep Anonymous forces So steep That broken street light So steep Life is like a drug (so steep} Sky less night So steep I count the falling stars So steep I will not be staying long Now and then I can see the truth above the lies Now and then I can see those beauties that shun my eye That's right

The cover of the album location, is on the room where Paul used to stay every time he comes to Panama at the ex Hotel Trump Plaza. He took the picture of the building who was under construction at that time around 2012. I met him because I used to work as a Concierge in there. He is an introvert person but he is very kind and polite, he also have a house at Bocas del Toro. As I know and he told me record many songs of the album here in Panama. One day I was a party and I told to some of my friends that I met one of my favorite artist and we used to talk sometimes when he was around the lobby. In the party was a guy who has a recording studio. He said that a gringo always went there and he was playing all the instruments and he asked to him one time to play the drums, that guy is a metal head and he wasn't aware that Paul Banks was going to his place several days per week.

Lol I kept thinking he sounded like the singer of Interpol, then I realized he was. He's gnarly.

Exactly. I also don't understand why most people don't like Out Love to Admire. Such a beautiful album. The more I listen to it, the more I like it.

Seen in tandem with the morning-after torpor so brilliantly expressed in "Rest My Chemistry', "The Base" is such a cool landing point on the necessary bedrock of equilibrium you have to found before you can enter adulthood. Yeah, you're older, but there's no defeat in adapting alongside it. It's just life.

I swear there was a comment under this video talking about how Banks sees through his 'ego' and the Base referring to the true self just few days ago. It was enlightening to me and I pressed like. I couldn't find it now. Weird.

I came here seriously skeptical. This is mainly due to the fact that Interpol's last two albums, while having their moments (Pioneer to the Falls, Mammoth, The Heinrich Maneuver, Rest My Chemistry, Success, Memory Serves, Barricade), were pretty much a shadow of what they did on Turn On The Bright Lights and Antics, and that I didn't think much of Julian Plenti. I'm happy to say that this song has restored my faith in Banks. Seriously looking forward to seeing him play live in Nashville on 11/5.

thanks man. guy doesn't know that artists grow and there is no plot to lose. to say there is a plot is to say there is a predetermined direction or parameters to follow to find our discoveries. we all know life isn't like that, so neither should our art be. i devour the new Interpol albums as brief windows into where this amazing musician that i admire has gone and what he has emotionally experienced in his life. there is no "worse" or "better" Interpol albums, just older musicians.

i respect interpol for exploring their own artistic endeavors but everyone is free to like or dislike what they want. it doesn't make them close-minded, or one-dimensional, nor does it mean we have some vendetta of some type against banks and interpol. i can't get into their last two albums myself... but i'm liking this banks solo stuff so far.

My gosh, I could not agree with you more. I believe humans today tend to use "apparently" as a way to distinguish themselves for noticing what they deem flaws in others. When really all they are doing is trying to look/talk/sound cool. I've also noticed that it used by hipsters a lot. Look at me going on and on. Apparently I was never taught the art of delicate self-promoting. Btw,thumbs up if you hate it when people ask for thumbs up on their own comment. But whatever, YOLO bro
