Full body goosebumps everytime i hear this song. A true pearl. Video is filmed in "Beelitz Heilstätten", a very famous lost place sanatorium near Berlin. And to clear some myths about Till...when he is eating a raw heart, it's not a fake heart. When he is bleeding, it's his blood. When he hits himself with a whip (Rosenrot), he get scars of it, and if he has a light in his mouth, there is a hole in his cheek for the cable. This man is as real as you can be.

The song's lyrics involve a narrator describing the terrors of nightmares. The opening line of the song's intro and chorus ("Now, dear children, pay attention. I have brought something for you") is taken from the German children's TV Show "Mr Sandman", which provided children with a "nice" bedtime story. The song's narrator appears as a much more darker version of this character. In this video, the character of the Sandman is played by Melanie Gaydos a famous model. Melanie Gaydos has suffered from a rare genetic defect since she was born: Her head is bald, her teeth and nails are malformed. She first appears to a sleeping Richard Kruspe, triggering nightmares and sending him into a state of agony. Meanwhile, Till terrorizes the complex of Beelitz-Heilstätten (military hospital of the Imperial German Army and Adolf Hitler recuperated there after being wounded in the first world war), which acts as an orphanage. He kidnaps the orphans and places them in a cage located in the main bathroom. A female warden attempts to defend the children with a shotgun, but Till overpowers her. The warden appears in the video both young (Viktorija Bojarskaja) and old (Anna von Rüden), while Till remains the same age, indicating immortality and paranormal abilities. While guarding the orphans, Till takes a grotesque, insect-like form with an elongated head and fingers. The children are then used in various examinations and surgeries with the rest of the band playing the doctors. The female warden is also seen assisting them in her younger form. One of the surgeries sees a child's tears extracted through a syringe, which is then vaginally injected by the Sandman. The Sandman is also subject to examinations by the doctors, as Paul H. Landers is seen giving her a gynecological examination. She later walks in a dress shielding two small children, possibly indicating that the tears are involved in a form of In vitro fertilisation. While Till is away from the main bathroom, the children (portrayed by the rest of the band as disheveled adults) escape from their cage and the orphanage. This causes Till to tear out and consume his own heart while the Heilstätten is engulfed in an inferno. The video ends with the liberated walking away from the building, while the chorus of the piano version plays in the background, signalling the video of the piano version as an afterword. (Wikipedia) The song "my heart burns" is the film score for "Lilja 4-ever". A film about child prostitution. That's why you could interpret the text based on this film. In the film, girls from Russia lured to Sweden in the hope of a better life, in which a young and attractive man promises her heaven there: "Dear children, take care, I am the voice from the pillow" Then the sentence "Tore it out of my chest, I can imagine that she died inside every time she was raped. Since the rapes happen under cover of the night, this motif comes up frequently in the song. They steal your hot little tears, The film is a nightmare and it leaves a feeling of emptiness and powerlessness ...

Melanie Gaydos has ectodermal dysplasia and along with everything you mentioned, it also affects her vocal chords. It's quite noticeable when she speaks in the making of video. She also quite small. It's never stopped her achieving what she wants to though.

So rare to have people reacting on piano version first. Because the song is from the Mutter album, opening of the album (2001) and they decided to use this song as a single years later, as a support for the videos compilation. That's why they made this videoclip was shown in... 2015, and they made the piano version at the same time. There is story around this video: there was a first director, but the band didn't like the final result, so they asked another director whom they already worked with, they shooted some more pictures in the same place and made a mix with the ones they already had.

You are right, the recording location for the video is the same as in the piano version. An old, empty hospital. In the piano version, Till wears the clothes and make-up of the Schello players.

Hello you two. My name is Heike and i am from Germany. First of all, I love your Rammstein reactions. I am a fan since 1998, where I first seen them live in Berlin. I admit i am in Love with Till since then🤭. You have done two mein herz brennt versions. But you have not see it live. I am lucky to got to see them at the Hurricane Festival 2013, where they did the piano version. Only Till and Flake. To me , preform just With a Piano and your voice in front of thousends of people , was so amazing and emotinal. Excuse my english. I would really live to see you two react to this version. Rammstein is like the craziest, strangest music I've ever heard. But man, I love them. You gotta have an open mind whenever you hear them and see their videos. But even whenever I don't know what their words mean most of the time, their music and hard base and guitar and symphony is killer. And this video is a perfect example. Kinda freaky. But in a fascinating way.

Just one translation mistake: "habe ich die Macht / die Augenlider zu *erpressen*" is translated to "I have the power / to *blackmail* the eyelids". In everyday language the translation would be right, but in the context here it's an uncommon poetic use of "erpressen" (= auszupressen) meaning "to squeeze out the hot, little tears from behind the eyelids" (to collect them with a syringe and inject them into the cold veins of the night demon). No worries ;-)). Even native speakers of German often misunderstand Rammstein lyrics, because they are full of poetic, archaic, uncommon words. The "classical" example is in "Du Riechst So Gut": "tropft Dein *Schweiß*, Dein heißes Blut". In common language "Schweiß" means "sweat", which makes no sense in the context of the song. Seldom "Schweiß" is also used as a synonym for Blut (blood) (only) in the terminology of hunters. So the meaning is "drops your blood (NOT sweat), your hot blood". -- What shall I say? Till Lindemann is a poet.

FYI: There's also another music video for Mein Herz Brennt. Originally director Eugenio Recuenco made a video for the, but Rammstein wasn't satisfied with the result, so they hired Zoran Bihac to shoot a few new scenes, which resulted in the video you saw here & the Piano version's video as well. But Eugenio Recuenco did release his "original"(one might say) version of the video himself. If you want to react to it as well just search for "Rammstein Mein Herz Brennt Eugenio Recuenco" and you'll find several reuploads of it, as that version was never officially uploaded by Rammstein.

The song from the 2001 Mutter album is a little bit different than this re-release from 2012. The 2001 has a guitar (solo) part at 3.40 and the 2012 version has Till repeating the lyrics. I am curious to know what your favorite is. 2001 or 2012? Same with Mein Teil. Also this video has a official making of on the KZbin channel from Rammstein. It is very valuable to watch it too.
