I visited the Matanuska Glacier in June 2021. We didn't have a sled ride. We hiked from the starting point. And went to the highest point of the glacier. Quite an experience to do a glacier hiking. The view was extraordinary. It was chilly and windy. I highly recommend doing this hike if you visit Alaska. Only about a two or three hour drive from Anchorage.

Glacier hiking would been so nice! We visited in March and at that time only tours were available so we went for the tour !

If you don't mind sharing, what were the exact dates for this hike? We are planning to do this late March next year. And would love to see the icy landscape vs what's there in summer

If it is okay, can you please let me know at what time of the day you started your tour? Was it 11:00 AM or 2:00 PM? Bcoz, the sunlight was just right for perfect photos!! And, we are about to book our tour for Mar 2022..

The hike is not difficult. You just need right gears for the hike.

How long does the hike usually take? Complete roundtrip?

We did a guided tour which lasted for almost 3 hours (including the time taken to check in and getting the equipments )

@@dibtojyoti10 Thanks , glad you liked it . We went in March during winters , it was not strenuous but we walked completely on icy terrain with the help of shoe spikes . Now the terrain might be a bit different than in winter (easier) , I would suggest you to directly check with the tour company if the hike is for all ages .
