Matas Buzelis is not the type of player that came out of nowhere. As someone who has been receiving a good deal of hype since his high school mixtape days, Buzelis is now considered one of the best prospects in the 2024 draft. Fitting the exact mold of what NBA teams look for in a stretch 5 type player, Buzelis comes from both a family and a country that has a reputation for producing exceptional basketball players. Both of Buzelis’ parents were professional basketball players in Lithuania who immigrated to the US, and Matas intends to follow in their footsteps and potentially go even further, looking to be the next in a long line of great Lithuanian players among the likes of Arvydas and Domantas Sabonis, Jonas Valanciunas, Zydrunas Ilgauskas, and Šarūnas Jasikevičius, but does he have the potential to do that? Or will the shortcomings in his game overcome his potential and leave him as a role player at most? Today, we’re going to break down his game, the pros, the cons, and if he has what it takes to succeed in the NBA.
Welcome to the channel! Over my life, I have developed a passion for diving deep into the stats, history, and play styles of various basketball players and teams, and in my opinion no better way to get those ideas out there than through rankings, compaarisons and tier lists.
I tend to discuss detailed breakdowns of individual players' strengths and weaknesses, their historical achievements, and their current performance on the court, to determine where they rank in the list in question.
The tier lists are carefully crafted to reflect the latest trends and developments in the league, and I always stay up to date with the latest news and analysis.
Whether you're a basketball history fan, or someone who wants to learn and talk about the modern game, this channel will have content for you. Subscribe for regular basketball ranking content and highlights!

All bro literally needs is a more consistent J and that’s arguably the easiest attribute to add as NBA player as we’ve seen countless times. He has the stroke and soft touch (pause) he just has to get in the lab and put up shots and once that muscle memory kicks in it’s over. Welcome home bro , let’s get it!!

Gianni's had all the same improvement areas: lacks bulk, decent handle, decent decision maker, inconsistent jumper, defensive discipline, etc....

His shooting form looks good. So i think it's his conditioning that needs to improve and of course getting used to the NBA distance.

If he had played college basketball he would’ve been more consistent, G-league ignite sucks. He’s still a top 3 player.

I hope he goes to spurs but people are forcing them for a pg when they ress as lot need to fill the sf spot frfr

For what it’s worth I think Nikola Topic is the better prospect, and therefore the better pick at 4 if he falls there, but if he’s there at 8 and the Spurs walk away with a Topic/Buzelis combo to pair with Wemby, that’s a phenomenal core to build off of

@@hoophierarchy I think topic might be at 8 pick for spurs depending cuz pistons,charlotte or blazers don’t need a pg so I feel like a pg as the 8th pick would be best IMO

Great video! If things pan out all his strength could make him a star! Still it’s likely he ends up a high end role player with his inconsistency and question marks. Still idk. As a spurs fan with the two picks I kinda wanna roll the dice on him. I think we do safe pick at 8 and goes ballsy at no 4

As long as players are expected to come in the league and create their own shot, not play an organized half court sets, watch the point guard dribble the length of the floor and force up a shot while not looking at his teammates, not seeking any offensive boards, jacking up 3-pointers from the locker room, celebrating after a dunk and your team is 30 points down with 50 seconds to go, he has an excellent chance to be great!!! I've been a Bull's fan for longer than most, since 1966, but I no longer watch the NBA. The game is an absolute travesty. The Bull's have always been my team and will always be my team, but the game has taken a sad turn.

You’re sick for comparing him to samanic who’s no where near as mobile or crafty. Samanic was more of a big man and Matas has iso creation ability. He can compete on both sides of the floor and could be a perfect third star to pair with victor, then potentially try to grab rob at #8 would be a home run. Dude said topic is a better prospect who’s also one of the worst defensively & with his lateral quickness in the class. He’s not a knockdown shooter and is coming off knee injuries playing against competition that’s not as physically compelling. He relies on being one of more athletic players in Adriatic league and is that really going to translate to playing against NBA athleticism. Coupled with lack of defense it’s the charcoal to a bbq

Well 1. I didn’t compare him to Luka Samanic. I compared him to Franz Wagner, but you would know that if you watched the video instead of insinuating from the comments section. 2. You talk about Topic’s shooting, but Buzelis, a theoretical stretch big, shot nearly the same percentage. The difference is, Topic’s game doesn’t need shooting to be productive at the NBA level. Buzelis will. Again, I’m not saying Buzelis won’t develop a shot, I think he probably will, but currently he’s too inconsistent to play consistent minutes shooting the percentage he does Finally, your claim against the Adriatic League is nonsense, as the Adriatic is an upper tier European league. Not the top, but it’s superior to college basketball easily. And good players have came to the NBA out of that league, the team Topic plays for has produced Jokic, Jovic, Micic, Zubac, Bitadze, etc.
@VietnamvetOG
@VietnamvetOG 2 ай бұрын
@@hoophierarchy you didn’t make that comparison but the top comment did. You’re telling me topic who is a below average shooter won’t need shooting to be successful I’m calling cap on that. He’s going to need to draw defenses out to fulfill his playmaking ability. As far as Matas shooting numbers you’re looking at a smaller sample size one which consisted of him having no point guard to feed him and him creating from himself going from high school to nba 3pt line. 2. At what point did I ever knock on Adriatic league all i said was that topic relies on being one of more athletic players in order to dominate as he does and although the players you listed are solid basketball players they don’t posses that elite athleticism that topic will face. If you watch his tape you can clearly see he’s one of the lesser athletes physically in the class
@VietnamvetOG
@VietnamvetOG 2 ай бұрын
@@hoophierarchy Matas is clearly one of the better rebounding wings in the class and can cause havoc on both ends of the floor. What’s going to happen to topic having to guard crafty and athletic scoring guards. How many dunks has topic had this season as a 6’6 guard? Does topic have a post game he can go to or does he rely on being a slasher with no jumper? Questions to contemplate
