Is this how Richard Dawson win the gig on Family Fued?
@sdlively274 жыл бұрын
Well he asked to have his own game show, and after about 5 tries make it as the host for Family Feud.
@Observer-jw8wv4 жыл бұрын
@@sdlively27 "About five tries" is inaccurate. I'm not sure where you're getting your information. Think about the time line. In May 1973, he had committed to Match Game. In 1974-75 he was hosting Masquerade Party, which was syndicated. And by early 1976 , Family Feud was in development. I'm also aware of his having been involved in a game show that was broadcast in LA only, around 1969? 1970? That's it. To answer Jamie Willkner's question, Match Game was definitely the springboard to Family Feud. There are similarities between the games, and they were both Goodson-Todman productions.' I have a little frustration with the tone that Richard was somehow desperate for a game show. He was a single father to two young sons, and he needed to work steadily. He'd been through the grind of sit-coms and that wasn't what he wanted any longer. He was a natural at game shows, the schedule was much more appealing, and that's what he focused his energies on. His manager, Leonard Grainger, pursued game show opportunities for him. Game shows are developed constantly; not all succeed, and very few take off the way Match Game and Family Feud took off. Richard was part of the Goodson Todman organization and was considered for things as they came up. He wasn't the "classic" smooth game show host (think Bert Convy) so it took time to find the fit with a game that a) was going to fly with audiences and b) would be a match for Richard's verbal talents. He had to prove himself to Mark Goodson, who loved him as a panelist and wasn't sure about him as a host. Family Feud certainly proved to be the right fit, and it blew Match Game out of the water in terms of popularity. Readers of these boards have to get used to a few things. The constant Brett-bashing is one. The hatred of a few guests--Gary Burghoff, Kaye Stevens spring to mind--is another. Constant nagging over Richard's unhappy periods, which occurred mostly in the last season. And the unrelenting jealousy of his success. People are still whining about why contestants chose him. Really, people? Because he was good at the game. It's obvious and it's very simple. And he's dead. So please, give up the snark about all these people and just enjoy the show for what it was -- a wild, raucous. naughty, fun, intelligent half hour of word play, which Richard Dawson undeniably excelled at.

This seems like a weak entry, with weak questions. ("Sir Jeffrey was deathly afraid of getting ____ in the jungle." WTF???) Evidently an early episode before the producers/writers got their groove on and hit their stride with funny and potentially risqué jokes, typically with two sentences, not just one. (Every joke needs at least two sentences -- a setup and a punch line.) Interesting how old this episode really is. When "Jimmy Walker" was mentioned, I expected Gene to say this was a "dy-no-mite" answer or something. But instead Gene said he was the former mayor of New York. Then I realized this was taped in 1973, a year BEFORE "Good Times" (what I consider already to be an "old" show in itself) came on the air!
