Larry Blyden was the original Sammy Fong, the nightclub owner, in "Flower Drum Song" on Broadway in the early 60s. Being white (and Jewish), he couldn't get away with playing an Asian now. Still, one wonders what he might have accomplished had he not been killed.

Schmuck is a Yiddish word. It refers to the male genitalia and was originally considered vulgar. Lenny Bruce was arrested for using the word on stage in 1962. It would be the same as calling someone a d--k. That wouldn't have cut it with the CBS censors in 1974. Even the New York Times didn't want to use the word when reviewing the movie "Dinner for Schmucks" in 2010 but allowed it to be used sparingly.
