I like "dog" better too. Given that the prisoner was a master of disguise, I think disguising himself as a dog would be a fitting challenge... But it's hard to argue with success, and wife worked out for the contestant!

@kevansf2 жыл бұрын
This isn't a direct reply to the OP, but a more general comment on Brett and the show: Yes, Betty and Brett have very different personalities and roles to play on the show. Thank goodness. The contrast was a factor in the show's popularity. I LOVE Betty. I LOVE Brett. (I also love CNR and Fannie.) Having the two of them playing off each other is television GOLD. Seriously, if if all the panelists were calm, demure, and simply played the game without any antics or horsing around, the show wouldn't have lasted a year. Gene knew it. He was the one who set the tone and encouraged the wild antics (he's rolled onto stage for his opening, for example, and has run around chasing or being chased by panelists, sometimes running out into the audience). The producers knew that they needed to set themselves apart from the straight-laced, rather dry, old-fashioned game shows of the day, and so they sought out and hired a variety of personalities. Brett was hugely popular with daytime television audiences at the time and her presence helped power the show's success in part because she wasn't a demure little lady. The show was NOT successful because it was a good game (it was a mediocre game at best -- Password and Jeopardy are classic examples of great games). The program was successful because it was entertaining. It was engaging. People tuned in every weekday to spend time with the celebrities and have a laugh. The game was secondary, an excuse to assemble the panel and to give them something to do. The celebrities' job was to be human, to entertain, to banter, to interact, to be silly, to become familiar faces to the American daytime TV audience. And Brett excelled at that. It's fine that people take the time to express how much they dislike Brett today, but it's important to keep in mind that the show was designed to appeal to the daytime television audience of 1973 (and on through the seventies) and so it's hardly surprising that it may or may not appeal to a broader audience some 50 years later. For those who truly detest certain members of the panel, my best advice is to watch something else. There's no shortage of media content these days.

"Grape ____________" (today's head-to-head match) (spoiler alert) ... My first thought was Grape Nehi, but even though that was Radar's favorite drink on "MASH," I thought it might be too esoteric, so I went with grape juice as my answer. The contestant's grapevine made perfect sense and I slapped my forehead because I hadn't thought of it. "Heard it through the grapevine" and a section of I-5 near LA is known as the grapevine. Brett answered Grape Nuts, another answer that I didn't think about. But you know, her answer makes a lot of sense too. The MG writers have come up with questions featuring Euell Gibbons at least a dozen times since MG premiered, and Gibbons was famous for his long-running series of Grape Nuts TV commercials.
