I just hate the deli questions, there are too many options! And they had one poor lady who had never been in a deli, she didn't know what they were. The only good one they ever had was when the owner put lox on his doors, to foil the burglars.

Gene asked if it had ever happened before that the panelists had come up with six different answers. He seemed to think it was very rare, but in fact it has happened quite a few times (although it turns out not this question, since Marcia matched Johnny). It has happened so often that I came up with my own rule of thumb: If a question gets 7 different answers (1 contestant + 6 celebs) then it's by definition a lousy question. Most questions (like this one) which get 6 different answers are also bad questions. The problem is that they're too wide open with nearly unlimited possible responses, but no really good or funny answers. On the other side of the coin, questions with only one answer aren't much fun either. The best questions have a clear definitive answer plus maybe 1 to 3 other good answers. The first round questions are generally harder (way more answers) than the second round, and the tie-breakers are usually super easy (only one or two good answers).

In an episode of the Alec Baldwin version, during the Super Match, the contestant didn't choose any of the celebrity responses and chose one of her own--and none of those four responses matched anything on the board. Seven different answers to a Super Match. I can't recall exactly what the question was ...
