H/H match update: ... Our stalwart regulars Charles, Richard, and Brett are joined by all "veterans" (as Gene puts it) once again for this 112th week of Match Game which originally aired in late September and early October 1975. Bill Daily returns for his third of 15 total weeks on the program. Since he's already scored 2 H/H matches (in just 2 attempts), one more match will promote him to the big leader board. Dr. Joyce Brothers is back as well, for her second of four total weeks. She has yet to play a H/H match. Maybe this will be her week? And for our sixth-seat semi-regular we have Patti Deutsch. Appearing 42 weeks total, she's #7 on the list of most frequent Match Game celebs (just behind Gary with 43 weeks). Patti has had two goes at the H/H match, scoring a win in episode 538. Guess what? No one other than Richard has scored a single H/H match since then! In fact, since episode 538, Richard has been chosen practically every single time. Brett had a try in 541 and Betty in 555, and that's it. Of those 14 H/H attempts, Richard matched 6 times. Will this be another all-Richard week? No H/H match today! This is the third Monday in a row that the contestant struck out on the audience match board... What's interesting is that the last two times, what happened was the contestant took Richard's suggestion and it didn't even appear on the board, and Richard didn't apologize or say a peep. Today, when his suggestion isn't taken, and it turns out to be the $500 response, he makes a point of chiding the contestant and telling her that she should have trusted him... Here's the current leader board showing the 11 celebs with at least 3 H/H matches, ranked by accuracy: Orson Bean - 100% (4 wins in 4 attempts). Gary Burghoff - 83.3% (5 wins in 6 attempts). TIE: Jo Anne Worley - 75% (3 wins in 4 attempts). TIE: Joyce Bulifant - 75% (3 wins in 4 attempts). Fannie - 50% (9 wins in 18 attempts). Betty - 46.9% (15 wins in 32 attempts). Charles - 45.2% (19 wins in 42 attempts). Jo Ann Pflug - 44.4% (8 wins in 18 attempts). Richard - 39.0% (119 wins in 305 attempts). Brett - 38.3% (18 wins in 47 attempts). Bert Convy - 33.3% (5 wins in 15 attempts). *These stats include every head-to-head match from episode 1 through 556, excluding the lost/missing episodes: 31, 32, 33, 311, 312, 313, 324, 325. (As per MatchGameProductions, these episodes "are nowhere to be found and also aren't in the Goodson/Todman Library. Sadly, looks like they are lost forever!")

@@Observer-jw8wv I'd say that, if anything, it was ruder then than it would be now. It was just one of those slightly shocking things that Gene did. I'm beginning to wonder whether he did it because it gave him an "excuse" to get close to the people. He seemed to have issues about being respected and (abusing) his authority and other people's space.
@Michelles222 Жыл бұрын
@@LynxSouth Oh, I have to disagree. Gene was joking and most of the celebs didn't mind. They knew how he was. But Gene loved the pretty women no doubt. But if there was a new female celebrity that was never on before it might of embarrassed them. But they all loved Gene. There was a lot of sex jokes on that show and Gene and Brett and Richard mostly, joked every day about something. As far as today goes, I don't believe anything about sex bothers/embarrasses hardly anyone. (Especially this generation) Or joking about roots of their hair. This era colors their hair all different colors. Most aren't embarrassed of squat. They were tame in the 70s compared to now. By a long shot. imho

@LynxSouth3 жыл бұрын
I was around in 1975, and I think it didn't have anything to do with Methodists in particular. Methodists were just one denomination that sent missionaries to places where cannibals were (allegedly). And the cannibals found the missionaries tasty, got hooked, and came hunting/shopping for more.

@GarretGrayCamera5 жыл бұрын
That was really odd. I'd like to know why. She did in effect say hello to them. The only thing I can imagine is it would take too much time and/or the producers would rather use the short few seconds to get a sense of the contestant. Edit: I just read up on a few things, not this specifically, but producers like to make people not sound boring. So saying a tidbit about your life is more interesting and unique than giving a boring shout out to people we don't know. So if every contestant gave shout outs, it'd just be a bunch of boring people saying hi to family and nothing to make them stand out as an individual.
