How fun one of the contestants was an actual motel manager from Encino!

Carol(e) Fis(c)her reminds me of Vicki Lawrence - facial features especially with some of her expressions. Jack being a hotel owner in Encino is hilarious.

H/H match update: ... Our champion wins her second game. For her audience match suggestions, she calls on Gary, Brett, and Richard, taking Gary's suggestion. Wake up, Earl! ;-) No one suggested the $100 answer. Brett had the $250 response. Gary's answer was worth $500. Quick recap: Richard has been chosen for the H/H the past ten times (matching four of them), and this champion chose him last time and won $5000. There's a definite lack of suspense as we wait for her to make it 11 in a row. Today's question: "Jump on the ________" Bandwagon. Is there another good answer? Apparently it's more obvious to me than to the contestant or to Richard. The former looks puzzled and a bit lost, and the latter is scratching his head, squirming, and then shaking his head. Seeing this, Gene remarks, "It's a hard one, yup." (I think this is kind of weird. Bandwagon came to me right away, and I'm the expression was definitely used in the mid-1970s.) I've never seen Richard take so long to write his response. The camera cuts to him looking towards seat #3 (which I've never seen before). It looks like he's reading suggestions Pat wrote. Then he's looking to seat #6 (where he often glances) and maybe Joyce has written a suggestion. The music plays on. Finally, he writes. Gene doesn't say a word even though he's scolded both Brett and CNR when they used less time than this. The contestant offers the response I'd thought of. (Really, what other possibility is there? Jump on the bed? What?) The audience breaks out in a healthy round of applause, and Richard exchanges a word with Joyce. I was sure Richard was going to match, but I was wrong: "I thought that was 'fall off the bandwagon.' All I could think of was jump on the trampoline." (The expression Richard was thinking of is "to fall off the wagon," meaning to resume a bad activity such as drinking alcohol.) No match today. (Richard's definitely in a mini-slump. He's only matched once in the past six H/H rounds.) Here's the updated leader board showing the 11 celebs with at least 3 H/H matches, ranked by accuracy: Orson Bean - 100% (4 wins in 4 attempts). Gary Burghoff - 83.3% (5 wins in 6 attempts). TIE: Jo Anne Worley - 75% (3 wins in 4 attempts). TIE: Joyce Bulifant - 75% (3 wins in 4 attempts). Fannie - 52.6% (10 wins in 19 attempts). Betty - 46.9% (15 wins in 32 attempts). Charles - 45.2% (19 wins in 42 attempts). Jo Ann Pflug - 44.4% (8 wins in 18 attempts). Richard - 40.1% (140 wins in 349 attempts). Brett - 38.0% (19 wins in 50 attempts). Bert Convy - 33.3% (5 wins in 15 attempts). *These stats include every head-to-head match from episode 1 through 613, excluding the lost/missing episodes: 31, 32, 33, 311, 312, 313, 324, 325. (As per MatchGameProductions, these episodes "are nowhere to be found and also aren't in the Goodson/Todman Library. Sadly, looks like they are lost forever!")

I bet the producers love it too (since he's saving them a lot of money)! The contestants might be slightly less thrilled, considering Richard has only matched once the past six times. In fact, looking back at the past 613 shows, Richard's track record for matching isn't awful, but it's towards the bottom. He's batting 40.1% compared to CNR at 45.2%, Betty at 46.9%, Fannie with 52.6%, Joyce with 75%, Gary with 83.3%. He is a little ahead of Brett with 38.0% though.
