Been going through comments for each episode as I watch, and there is something Brett does that drives me nuts: she fumbles and stutters in a way that feels like she's stalling for time before revealing her answer in such a BTW manner (see the Tiny Tom Thumb question)...I swear she does this at least once an episode! Anyone else noticing this?
@ts.elliot5870 Жыл бұрын
yes, she's not organized. She's trying to be funny but she's out of her league. I like Brett but she's the weakest of the regulars.
@Observ45er10 ай бұрын
I find her annoying. She tries way too hard and too many of her quips aren't even appropriate to the comment she's responding to. She just has to say something about everything. She also seems to need a hearing aide - however, please note that Gene talks to the mic and that isn't played back on stage, so it can make for problems, but others have few problems.

H/H match update: ... Today's action: Kind of a sad victory today: Our champion won her second game, but only because Old Man Periwinkle died four times on his honeymoon... Today's audience match question: " F. _______ " (Scott Fitzgerald, Troop, and FBI) The celebs: Brett (Lee Baily), Fannie (FDR), and Richard (Troop) -- Hmm, some good answers there! The choice: Scott Fitzgerald. (Well, what do you know? She's taking my suggestion instead!) The answers: Lee Bailey, Scott Fitzgerald, Troop Another $250 for our champ. Last time she selected Richard for the H/H match, but didn't score a win. Will she stay the course or try another star? More often than not, a contestant tends to stick with Richard, even after losing one or even two times. Let's see... "Let's try Richard again," she says. This is his eighth consecutive go at the H/H match. This time, I reviewed all his attempts back to the week starting with episode 626. He played 39 times during that span, and matched 15 of those, for a 38.5% accuracy rating (a little below his current cumulative average). Today's H/H question: "Off to the _______ " (Is there any answer other than "races"? This has got to be an easy match!) Richard quickly files his card. The camera angle is too close and/or high to watch him write, and then it cuts away mid-answer, so no solid clues, but it seems like a short answer. The contestant offers the predicted response to wild applause. Fingers crossed... Yes, indeed. We have a winner! Richard scores his 161st H/H match. Here's the updated leader board showing the 11 celebs with at least 3 H/H matches, ranked by accuracy: Orson Bean - 100% (4 wins in 4 attempts). Gary Burghoff - 83.3% (5 wins in 6 attempts). TIE: Jo Anne Worley - 75% (3 wins in 4 attempts). TIE: Joyce Bulifant - 75% (3 wins in 4 attempts). Fannie - 52.6% (10 wins in 19 attempts). Betty - 50% (17 wins in 34 attempts). Charles - 47.7% (21 wins in 44 attempts). Jo Ann Pflug - 44.4% (8 wins in 18 attempts). Brett - 41.8% (23 wins in 55 attempts). Richard - 40.6% (161 wins in 397 attempts). Bert Convy - 33.3% (5 wins in 15 attempts). *These stats include every head-to-head match from episode 1 through 683, excluding the lost/missing/damaged episodes: 31, 32, 33, 311, 312, 313, 324, 325, and 645. (As per MatchGameProductions, these episodes "are nowhere to be found and also aren't in the Goodson/Todman Library. Sadly, looks like they are lost forever!")

@@sdlively27 I assume he forgot his wardrobe; maybe he just got off a plane and had to go straight to work or maybe he just goofed and left them home. He had a different jacket and shirt for 685, the last show of the day, and that jacket was definitely his as he wore it before. He probably had to have someone (his manager?) round up clothes and bring them to him in the studio.

Fannie mentions Bicentennial Minutes. I wonder how many of the panel did them (since they were on CBS and there were nearly 800 segments, probably a few!) Richard Dawson did one on February 3, 1975 -- topic unknown, unfortunately. From what I can tell, all but three or four Bicentennial Minutes are lost to history.
@Observer-jw8wv4 жыл бұрын
As I said, records survive for only a few of them. I know that Betty Ford and Jessica Tandy both recorded them, but it is not surprising that in the 1970s very few women were invited. I believe Gene did one too, by the way. I've seen a publicity photo from the one Richard did, but there is no hint as to what it was about. I can ask his son; he might recall.

@@sdlively27 I'm a fan of Gene's, but I'd need more evidence to believe that was a consensus opinion. Also, wearing a suit and tie on camera was nothing exceptional in the 1960s and 1970s. In any event, my point was that in THIS episode he was being a bit fussy about how he looked.
