H/H match update: ... "Match Game" trivia: Amanda Blake's name came up when the first question (the challenger's tie-breaker) revolved around Blake's "Miss Kitty" character from "Gunsmoke." -- Amanda appeared on the MG panel (fourth seat) in episodes 346-350 (that was her one and only week on the program). She was even chosen to answer the head-to-head question, but sadly didn't match the contestant. Today's action: Our champion needed two panelists to provide "glue" in order to tie, but only Debralee obliged. Fannie offered "Poligrip," and while an adhesive of sorts, it is quite different from generic glue. And so the outgoing champion spins off with $7,400, and the new champion prepares to see if he'll win some big money. Today's audience match question: "________ Scope" (My thoughts: Peri-, Tele-, Micro-, Cinema-) The celebs: Bill (Tele-), Brett (Stetho-), Richard (Micro-) The choice: Micro- (The audience boos!) The answers: Peri-, Micro-, Tele- I'm trying to guess who our new champion will call on for the H/H. It's always safe to assume that Richard will be the one selected, and the contestant did "trust" Richard by taking his suggestion, so maybe? I think there's a slim chance he'll choose Bill, given he called on Bill first and Bill offered the top answer on the audience match board... He follows the crowd and chooses Richard. This is now Richard's 13th straight time chosen for the H/H question, and he's matched four of them so far. Looking back, Richard has matched 13 of his 39 most recent attempts (33.3%). Today's H/H question: "Holiday _______" (My first thought was "Holiday Inn." I think they were around back then, but I'm too lazy to check. Anyway, I'm not coming up with anything else, so that's my answer. Holiday on Ice?) Richard begins writing immediately, and it looks like a short response. Maybe he wrote "Inn"? "'Inn' is the first thing that hit my mind," our champion says, and the audience cheers wildly. Okay, I'm glad I didn't waste any time looking it up. Based on what I saw of Richard writing his answer, it sure seems likely we'll have a match today. "Holiday Inn" is also the title of a 1942 Bing Crosby/Fred Astaire movie, but Richard mentions the hotel chain, and incredibly, he also name-checks "Holiday on Ice" before revealing the matching answer. Richard scores his 212th H/H match today. (And Richard pulls back ahead of Brett once again on the leader board.) Here's our updated leader board showing the 11 celebs with at least 3 H/H matches, ranked by accuracy: (Note: An asterisk before a celebrity's name signifies that she has "retired" from the show and her H/H stats are now complete.) (Note: For tied scores, I consider the one with the greater number of matches to be higher; if the matches are equal, the celeb who first achieved that score goes on top.) Orson Bean - 100% (4 wins in 4 attempts). Gary Burghoff - 83.3% (5 wins in 6 attempts). TIE: (*)Jo Anne Worley - 75% (3 wins in 4 attempts). TIE: Joyce Bulifant - 75% (3 wins in 4 attempts). Charles - 51.7% (31 wins in 60 attempts). TIE: Betty - 50.0% (18 wins in 36 attempts). TIE: Fannie - 50.0% (13 wins in 26 attempts). Jo Ann Pflug - 44.4% (8 wins in 18 attempts). Richard - 41.0% (212 wins in 517 attempts). Brett - 40.9% (27 wins in 66 attempts). Bert Convy - 33.3% (5 wins in 15 attempts). *These stats include every head-to-head match from episode 1 through 842, excluding the lost/missing/damaged episodes: 31, 32, 33, 311, 312, 313, 324, 325, and 645. (As per MatchGameProductions, these episodes "are nowhere to be found and also aren't in the Goodson/Todman Library. Sadly, looks like they are lost forever!")

The broadcasting instructor one I was just SOOOO sure the 'definitive' answer would have been Howard Cosell! I was somewhat relieved when Fannie named SOMEONE!

You can tell when the celebrities are either going for laughs with their answers, or even sabotaging a player.

The March 17, 2017 edition of the Lansing State Journal features Tricia's appearance on Who Wants to be a Millionaire. Her father is also in the interview. There are quotes in it about her experience on Match Game and Sale of the Century (appeared 11.28-12.5.1988). Her father, Charlie Wilcox and daughter were also contestants on Who Wants to be a Millionaire and respectively won $1,000 and $25,000.

The female contestant toward the end "Tricia" which is usally short for Patricia....I want to almost bet she was on Sale Of The Century circa 1989. She was calling herself Pattie by then and she won big.

Trisha Wilcox won $12,500 here, and would also appear on "Sale of the Century" in 1989 as Pattie Jurado (winning $23,800), and on Who Wants To Be a Millionaire in 2017 as Patricia Jurado (winning $30,000).

You know, I've been wondering myself. It would be really easy to throw the game with a stupid answer. Like Patty D. She makes jokes a lot rather than try to help the contestant.

Technically Poligrip is glue, but since ribbit isn’t croak (croak has a double meaning that ribbit doesn’t have), that makes up for it.
