H/H match update for episode 1357: ... ~~~Today's action: As the last episode ended, our champion had just won his second game, so we kick things off today with his return visit to center stage. *Today's (first) audience match question: "Back in________"* (My thoughts: Black, the Saddle Again, My Day) - *Oops. I just checked, and "Back in Black" was released in 1980. Oh well, the panel never would've thought of that song anyway. The celebs: Brett (Town), Marcia (Business), Charles (the Saddle Again) The choice: The Saddle Again The answers: The USSR*, The Saddle Again, A Minute - (*Case in point, Gene had never heard of that song either!) Quick recap: Our champ won $5K matching Brett last time. Let's see what the wheel offers this time... The wheel looked liked it was considering Marcia, but ended up on Ken Olfson. No double. Stats: This is Ken's first H/H question. I've only seen him answer a few regular questions yesterday, but it seems like he could give a reasonable answer. *Today's (first) H/H question: "_______Arts"* (Performing? When I heard the question, I thought there were a lot of good answers, but now I can't really think of any really good ones. Culinary arts? Domestic arts? Language arts? Contemporary arts? Ancient arts? Healing arts? I'll stick with performing.) Ken ponders for a brief moment before filing his card. It doesn't appear that any other panelist offered any input or feedback of any kind. Our sophomore champion gives what immediately sounds like the best answer to me: "Martial." Duh! That's got to be the definitive answer! The audience, however, isn't all that thrilled. It sounds like a 2 on positivity scale. Ken's answer: "Fine" arts. Once again, 3 different answers for this one. I like my own answer least of the 3. No H/H match this time. ~~~~~ And our champion manages to "Stick" around for a third victory. *Today's (second) audience match question: "________Peace"* (My thoughts: World, War &, Leave me in) The celebs: Brett (Die in), Marcia (War &), Charles (World) The choice: War and The answers: Dove of, World, War and The wheel is giving Ken a second chance. Still no double. Stats: This is Ken's second H/H question. He didn't score a match his first attempt earlier today. *Today's (second) H/H question: "Solid Gold_______"* (Dancers was my first thought, but Wikipedia says the series debuted in 1980. Okay, solid gold jewelry, necklace, ring, earrings... I have no clue. Jewelry.) Ken looks off to the side as if he doesn't have an immediate inspiration. The now three-time champion looks pensive but calm. I see Ken writing an answer, then turning to a new card and writing, then turning to another card and writing another answer. The way he's angled, it looks like he's showing Marcia the answers, but I'm not sure. He files a card. Ding. "Cadillac" is his answer. The audience loves it. Their response sounds like a 9. (That was the name of a 1956 comedy film, one I hadn't heard of.) Well, look at that! We have a match! (It's only Tuesday and we've got two matches this week already, which is equal to the total number of matches in the prior two weeks combined!) Ken Olfson becomes the 58th MG celebrity to score a head-to-head match! ~~~Here's our standing leader board showing the 11 celebs with at least 3 H/H matches, ranked by accuracy: (An asterisk before a celebrity's name signifies that she or he has "retired" from the show and their H/H stats are now complete.) (For tied scores, I consider the one with the greater number of matches to be higher; if the matches are equal, the celeb who first achieved that score goes on top.) Orson Bean - 100% (4 matches in 4 attempts). (*)Jo Anne Worley - 75% (3 matches in 4 attempts). Joyce Bulifant - 66.7% (4 matches in 6 attempts). Gary Burghoff - 55.6% (5 matches in 9 attempts). Charles - 50.6% (43 matches in 85 attempts). Betty - 46.9% (23 matches in 49 attempts). Fannie - 46.2% (18 matches in 39 attempts). (*)Jo Ann Pflug - 44.4% (8 matches in 18 attempts). Brett - 43.6% (41 matches in 94 attempts). (*)Richard - 42.5% (373 matches in 878 attempts). Bert Convy - 33.3% (5 matches in 15 attempts). *These stats include every head-to-head match from episode 1 through 1357, excluding the missing/damaged/unavailable episodes: 31, 32, 33, 311, 312, 313, 324, 325, 645, 910, 1024, 1025, 1026, 1027, 1028, 1029, and 1030. (Note: episode 849 was never produced.) These stats do, however, include the H/H results of missing episode 968 as those results were revealed in episode 969. There was no H/H in missing episode 1035, as we learn in 1036. These stats do, however, include results of episodes 1309 through 1317, found on channels other than this one.

I believe it was from the Beatles White Album, song 1, Side 1 from 1968. That's just off the top of my head. I could have sung Back in the USSR back in 1978 very easily.

Oh, brother. Big Bird didn't eat worms, lay eggs, or live in a cage. Should have been "As the Nest Turns."

2:57 -- Yet again, Rayburn and the panelists are utterly ignorant of any music worth the bother.

Gene doesn’t know any music made after 1952.

Oh, but if you to need to know a song from an obscure 1932 musical, they could sing it for you off the top of their heads!

With the exception of Brett, Charles and Marcia, this panel is terrible. Mabel looks like she doesn't wanna be there and I'd never heard of "Flying High" or Ken Olfson until this.
