H/H match update: (Spoilers) ~~~~~ Trivia: This PM episode was taped on July 10, 1976. This week's stars and their total appearances on the daytime series: Brett Somers (286 weeks total. First week: 11-15; Final week: 1451-1455) Richard Dawson (257 weeks total. First week: 1-5; Final week: 1281-1285) Charles Nelson Reilly (235 weeks total. First week: 11-15; Final week: 1441-1445) Fannie Flagg (90 weeks total. First week: 76-80; Final week: 1446-1450) Patty Duke Astin (14 weeks total. First week: 371-375; Final week: 1371-1375) Bert Convy (13 weeks total. First week: 11-15; Final week: 1371-1375) All the stars' head-to-head stats for the '73-'79 daytime series are shown in the big leader board (below), with the exception of Patty's. During the main series, Patty matched 2 out of 5 H/H questions. Note: This is the first PM episode in which all six stars have achieved at least one H/H match in the main series. Going into today's H/H question, we've had a shocking streak of *eight consecutive H/H misses* on the PM show, a record. Today we'll see if Richard can finally end that streak, along with his own streak of six consecutive misses (also his PM record so far). For today's H/H, my answer is Whip "Cream", and it sounds like a pretty easy match today, but I've been saying that the past few shows... (Yes, I know it's technically "whipped cream" but people say it the short way, and grammar and spelling don't matter in the world of Match Game questions - all that matters is matching!) Mercy. Will this ever end? The contestant's answer (poor guy obviously drew a blank) has me shaking my head and the audience groaning like there's no tomorrow. (Note: his answer is just as grammatically questionable as mine, but at least mine is something people actually say.) Well, Richard at least came up with a grammatically valid response: "Lash". This makes 9 PM episodes without a H/H match, and Richard has extended his personal loss streak to 7 - tying his record on the daytime show. He missed seven in a row a few times, actually: in episodes 845-856, 929-937, 962-967, 1122-1129. Frankly, I'm shocked, because I'm honestly convinced that the questions were generally harder on the '73-'79 version, perhaps intentionally because a champion could earn a second or third or fourth attempt at an H/H, but on the PM show, they've only got the one chance. ~~~~~ Here are the H/H stats for the PM series so far: Star: Matches/Attempts/Match % Charles: 2/2/100% Brett: 3/5/60.0% Richard: 18/33/54.5% EBR*: 5/10/50.0% Betty: 0/1/0% Fannie: 0/2/0% *EBR = Everybody but Richard.
