@mcmango84 Crowds are disappearing? Last I tried to book a ticket for a ManU or Arsenal game there wasn't any tickets for the entire season!

Wonderful memories. Very hard not to sound like an old git, but back then footballers were ordinary people. The game had a place for the hard man defender as well as the skilful players, and there was such an affinity between players and fans. Very hard to feel an affinity with players that earn tens of thousands per week and have so much power over their clubs.

Emlyn Hughes 'We would have kept the cup if we had won it three times in a row' You mean just like Real Madrid (1955-60) Ajax (1971-73) and Bayern (1974-76) DIDN'T?

Easy to get put on the rose-tinted glasses; some of it was great, not doubting that, but there was a lot of violence and hooliganism at the matches, the pitches were a complete disgrace, and skilful players were not protected by the thugs who tried to break their legs and didn't even get booked. If you can be sure of one thing, it's that the golden age has just ended.
