Football in the 80s was great, the heavy pitches and quaint grounds with their own unique identity was the norm in those days,...now all grounds look the same manufactured bowls with perfectly manicured pitches, lacking atmosphere and the nostalgia of the old grounds....it was the imperfections that made Saturday afternoon at 3 , cheering on your team in rain and snow so enjoyable,. And the cold tea and lukewarm hotdogs at halftime was part of the experience ....miss those times

Satellite television money and gambling. If you believe the deluded who still pay the small mortgages to watch "their" beloved clubs, apparently the game/sport needed it to survive. Try asking a "Shakers" Bury FC fan if that's of any comfort. Instead of making the clubs into businesses and PLCs, the clubs who struggled should be funded by profits from the likes of Manchester City, Manchester United et al and provide a balance.

Gambling is the biggest denominator now in everything. Adverts are either gambling or charity & the latter now demands Direct Debits & not a donation anymore. How I miss a Heinz Baked Beans advert or the Milky Bar Kid & Don't Forget The Fruit Gums Mum.

9:16 Was lovely to see "Leander" 5690 chuffing it's way past there. Impressive that Alan Parry bothered to mention by name, not just say "Hey look, a big red steam train" like most nobends would. Was actually one of the locos Billy Butlin bought to work near his resorts, purely because of the colour.
