Great job fella turned out really nice and those parts from model-supplies are superb for us restorers. Got 4 of these to do myself 2 regular wheels in cream and 2 superfast thin wheel one in cream and one in yellow. The cream superfast will remain untouched as this is the rarer variation of this particular model. Keep up the great work, it just gets better and better.
@MatchboxRestoration5 жыл бұрын
Thanks! I have some really nice parts from them. I also have some parts in slightly worse condition from them, mostly the metal casted parts. They do need some work before putting them on the model. Cool that you have multiple variations of this one. I'm already happy that I got one of them and that it was in bad enough condition to restore 😉

I'm glad to see you replaced the tow hook. I like to keep them on mine as well when I do full restorations. I still have like 3 more of these castings left (all with no windshields ) maybe I'll do a custom on one eventually. I think I mixed a tiny drop of yellow with the white when I did my superfast model .I remember I had to mix it twice because I put too much yellow in the first time. Excellent restoration.

Thanks, George! The windshields are quite rare on these models. I think most that are played with have a missing window unit.

Great result. Does justice to a classy vehicle! Your paint match looks fine. There is no way of ever knowing if the paint colour is an exact match, as all models - even mint examples, will have changed shade in some way. The paint is 50 years old, after all. I also use those repro tow hooks. They are excellent for a restoration, and some customising. I have put them on some Matchbox, which, in real life, would be suitable tow vehicles: #71 Jeep Gladiator, #6 Ford F100 etc.
@MatchboxRestoration5 жыл бұрын
Thanks! Exactly, the color is always a compromise. But it turned out just fine on this restoration, I think. I'm always a bit hesitant to keep or remove the tow hooks on these models. But since this was a restoration, I decided to keep it.

@@MatchboxRestorationIt is refreshing to see one of these little cars with a OEM looking paint job. I see so many of these diecast restoration guys post videos of cars that look like they have been rolled in sand before they were painted. Videos and projects are progressing nicely. The Mercedes looks great. I think you should hang some of your gf’s paintings on the background wall, changing them occasionally to see if we notice.😉 one thing I noticed some modelers doing was putting white cloth or paper on their tables to make their models pop more. I’m not sure how it would go with an off-white car (maybe a black background?). I really like the use of your drill press too and your custom tools, in the end it really gives your cars a pro finish.👍
@MatchboxRestoration5 жыл бұрын
Thanks, Jonathan! I use a white background to help me with the lighting of the photo's. Black backgrounds tend to be harder to photograph. The paintings might be a bit to big to put behind the models 😅But I'll keep it in mind.
