You should have painted it the original color! I had one of these when I was a kid! It was a classic! Especially with original color!

When my brother and I would play "cars", this casting was always my number one pick. There was something about the weight of it... and that it tended to hold up well in the crash-up derbys

A friend of mine used to soak his Bass guitar strings in caustic soda. Cleaned out the gunk like crazy and made the Tone sound great. Never bought a set of strings in his life. Didn't make him play any better though. Nice resto.

Looks great, I'm not a fan of a colour screen either. I would have been tempted to cut off the side windows to show off your work with the interior. But it really looks great. These videos are so satisfying, each one I'm thinking, just a strip and paint, but each time I'm astounded with the process and outcome ! In the absence of an airbrush, I bought grey primer, gloss black, and a hot wheels from the poundshop. Gonna get to work ! Me and my son (he loves your builds too) went hunting in the charity shops for a shabby car. We only found one, a 1978 matchbox porsche turbo 911. But unfortunately, he likes it how it is, so to a new hot wheels !

I think the rims could have deserved a "liquid chrome treatment" but other than that no complaints. I think your camera was a bit shocked when it spotted the side of the finished toy car for the first time. :) Cheers, Jarkko / MyVinylBar

The date on the bottom of Hot Wheels and Matchbox is not always the date that car was made. It is mainly the date of when the original mold was made.

For roughly that era firebird, you should get one with a complete hood (bonnet). Then you can paint it black and put the famous gold "screaming chicken" decal on the hood.

That's a really nice job . Maybe you could've had twin gold stripes leaving it black between the rocker covers and up over the roof and deck (trunk, boot) but that's just my opinion. Looks great 👍

Assuming you can find one that'll take the heat of boiling water you might be better off with a plastic container for paint stripping, Caustic & other strong alkalis can attack glass, Polyethylene, polypropalene & Polycarbonate have relatively good chemical resistance.

Just think. A loaded Firebird Trans Am sold for just a little over CAD $10,000* (£5745) in 1978. The ordinary firebird, much less. It was equipped with a 6.6 L V-8 (400 cu in). My best friend’s 18-year-old brother had one. A high school graduation present from his father. *In those days, the CAD was worth almost as much as the USD. Also, US-built automobiles sold for more in Canada as well; in fact, they still do.

Outstanding result. Great job, Rob! I have a question for you though, how long did you wait before you masked off the black paint? I wanted to do the same with one of my hotwheels but I was scared the masking tape would damage the base coat. Thanks.

Hi mate around half hour but probably should have left it a little longer. I use Tamiya tape which is made for it. Normal automotive tape might be too aggressive

I'm gonna have to school you on good ol American muscle. Put some gold, or chrome or painted silver on those wheels.Thats one fad that I Hope goes away fast in the USA. .Washes the whole car out. Love the paint job tamiya paints /clears make it shine flawlessly. But the black wheels take away from a firebirds beauty .

Take that ugly chrome interior back out, soak it all in bleach. It will eat that crap away and have a nice black interior. And chrome pen the covers if you want but I’d leave them. You’d also have better results with some wet sanding and polish to knock down that orange peel.. you could also run the pointy end of a thumb tack, or needle, trace from A pillar to B pillar and cut that ugly orange out! Wow they made those thing hideous! It was definitely the 70’s!
