Don't feel sad for Matchbox Twenty. They're the most famous alternative band ever. It was their choice not to turn this song into a single. By the time the Mad Season album was made, Matchbox Twenty had enough clout to put any song they wanted out as a single. My guess is they wanted this song to be a gem for their loyal fans who went out and bought their album.

My son hung out with Mr Thomas in Nashville when he was trying to break into music. He met Mr Thomas and his wife and said they were great. I just wanted Mr. Thomas to know, your lyrics have affected me. Especially since i recently lost my sister and my dad. Thank you for the outlet

I don't know why this doesn't click with anyone I show it to, but I suspect there are folks who focus on the meaning of the words and don't like that, or could it be that their fans like the energetic hits they're known for, but this is macabre? This is my favorite Mb20 song. It would be good in a Bond or Batman film.

What does it mean to you? To me, it outlines the struggle of love and forgiveness. To truly cherish something or someone, and find peace after you have been betrayed. Every time I'm hurting from some felt slight, I come here or to similar songs, and I find that truth. That nobody and nothing is perfect, yet we can and should strive for that goal anyway. That pain, is. And no measure of pain can destroy your resolve, if you truely want for peace. I have lost loved ones, shed blood(others and my own), and found hope still. Through it all, I will be strong, rich in love and carry on. Though peace will never truely be mine. What of your answer? I actually would like to know...

To me, this song is about diving too deep with your lover and then having to deal with the fall out of betrayal. It makes me think of my ex girlfriend because I fell too deep for her and my heart hasn't healed from her leaving me. I think the song also is about the pain that one goes through in still loving one's ex while hating them at the same time for leaving.
