I am so glad to say I grew up in the 90's, with this music. so authentic and timeless. songs like this were so great. instead of people hiding behind computer screens or looking at their cellphones all the time, people seemed to communicate more face to face. social media wasn't a thing. just cool songs on the radio and cool music videos on tv. what a time to be alive. even though you can see these videos and hear this music on KZbin now, there's simply nothing like hearing the music back when it came out and was being played on the radio constantly. when I heard a song I liked, I would go buy the album. I still have all my old c.d.'s from the 90's. songs like this were special. life was simpler and not as scary, to me. social media seemed to water down the authenticity of music. there are certain artists I still like, but nothing compares to the realness of 90's bands
@larrybaumer27542 жыл бұрын
I feel the same way about the music from the 60's, 70's & early 80's. Those were the years that built the foundations of progressive rock, metal, and smooth mellow harmonies that made us parants, and raised youre generation, and hopefully inspired our love of music as much to you all. We lived in a time when it was free to see bands play, and only a couple of tv shows even covered music back then. Like Ed Sullivan or American Bandstand, then later on in the 70's came the Midnight Special. Now, there's too much going on in every direction to keep up on the new talent thats out there, and too many faces glowing from either facebooger or tic-tack to care much. And it seems that lately some are more intrested in voicing their opinions about politics, than singing their own songs. To say you seen Cream, The Beatles, the Eagles, or the Stones, says alot more than just an era of music too. Keep Rockin & Keepin it Real my friend, cause the music never stops. I know, i listen to dead people now

@tomferguston - No truer words have ever been said to fit a situation like that. I personally know all too well about that long, exhausting struggle. You see, I lost my husband of 23 years on May 22, 2023 and this song, for me, it says A LOT and touches my heart even more than it ever did before!! Matchbox 20 was one of my husband's favorite bands and it's ironic because the night I met him, this song was playing. Please let me say in closing here, I wish you and everyone reading this peace, love, joy and happiness. Spend every moment with you're special someone, tell that special someone that you love them...don't waste one minute in doing so, that time is so precious!! Make lots of memories and remember to smile, even through tears, because you know that's what they'd want for you to do. Take care, peace out!

"She swears the moon don't hang quite as high as it used to" is one of my favorite lines ever. Simple but implies so much. First of all just the sheer loneliness and boredom that would lead to somebody noticing something like that. The beginning of the descent into madness required to swear that a celestial body has shifted in the sky. Another angle is the beauty of the night that the moon once brought has been lost to pain, sadness, and the increasingly obvious truth that the sun has set on your life and the moon is soon to follow :/

Yeah, you run across those from time to time. I didn't really think much about the lyrics of Shinedown's "The Crow and the Butterfly" until I read an interview where the lead singer said the song was about a parent packing up their child's bedroom after he died, because they just couldn't take seeing it empty anymore. And Seether's video for "Rise Above This" is just gut-wrenching when you know Shaun Morgan wrote the song to cheer up his depressed brother, but the video centers around someone jumping off a building because his brother committed suicide by jumping to his death shortly before the album released.

When I was 5 years old. After experiencing some heavy trauma. My mom 25 at the time, had a late night (3AM) paper route, and we would do it together. I’d jump the window and toss the papers and we’d listen to Matchbox I can’t help but tear up a bit listening to most of their songs. They are and will always be apart of who I am and where I came from and the things I got to do that differed from the norm.

For those of us who lived it, the 90s made a lot more sense than today does.
@sigerlion86084 жыл бұрын
90s was coming out of the 80s recession credited to Reagan and Bush Sr. Had a decade of prosperity. No cell phone distracting everyone. Companies still had pensions. One could have switched jobs at will. It literally took less than a week to get hired instead of the endless interview process of today. Federal budget had a surplus and national debt was being paid. Then the 90s ended and boom, 9/11. George Bush Jr. and his dumbass terrorist level chart to keep the public in fear and him in power. Then came the 2008 "Great Recession" once again attached to someone who's last name was "Bush". Took nearly another decade to get back on track but an insanity asylum candidate was elected President. Under his leadership, 2020 is doing "so well!" sigh.

I’d like to think what I’m on is some kind of spiritual journey. Sometimes I question if I’m still doing the right thing or on the right path. No matter how lost I become, I always come back here, to this music and this band specifically. There’s a special place in my heart that nothing or anyone could ever change for the feeling I have when coming back to this. It reminds me of a time when my heart was truly at peace. No matter how far life takes me, here is where I will always find my center and I hope to get back to it someday.

I am deeply sorry about the passing of your mother. Mine passed away 10 years ago. November 2022 will be 11 years. I have loved this song since the first time I heard it and did not know until last year it was written about his mother and her fight with cancer while he took care of her. Cancer is a horrible disease. It has taken too many way too soon. Cancer sucks and I hate it with every fiber of my being. May God bless you and comfort you knowing she doesn't have to go through it anymore. It still hurts but I tell myself that same thing often.

@@Facts.About.Everything.KZbin you are very welcome. Out of all the comments and stories people made on this song your story jumped out and touched me. I don't understand why, but it did. As a believer God has a strange way of getting people's attention. I guess this was his way of getting mine. To know others have a similar story and they found ways to cope with their loss. Since my mom's passing I was diagnosed with severe depression, anxiety and PTSD. All of which I was put on prescription medication to help cope. I am no longer on these medications and finding other ways to cope. My hope is and was that you could and would somehow find comfort by some total stranger to reach out to you to say I know what you are going through. May God continue to bless and comfort you and know that you will always carry her in your heart as I will do the same with my mother. Ironically I looked at the clock 8n the hospital as she took her last breath and it was exactly 3am.
